[SPOILER ALERT] If you watched last night’s Chicago Fire, this won’t be a huge surprise. Deadline reports regular castmember Steven R. McQueen is leaving the NBC series after two seasons.
In 2015, McQueen joined the drama as Jimmy Borrelli, a firefighter working for Chicago Firehouse 51. The cast also includes Jesse Spencer, Taylor Kinney, Monica Raymund, Eamonn Walker, and David Eigenberg.
From a TVLine interview with Chicago Fire EP Michael Brandt:
With Jimmy’s character, it just felt like he needed to stand up for what he believed in, but Boden needed to stand up for what he believed in, and those two things couldn’t live together. Eamonn [Walker] has been with us since Day 1. He was the first character we cast. He’s Papa Bear in Chicago… He’s not going anywhere… He’s too much of the rock.”
McQueen is not currently scheduled to return as a guest star on Chicago Fire.
What do you think? Are you a fan of Chicago Fire? Were you surprised at McQueen’s exit?
I did not see him as a major player in the show so I will not miss him. Jesse Spencer was a huge part of the show , but knowing how long he has worked in TV, I could see he needed a break. i miss him but the show works just fine with him gone. As long as the scripts stay great I am still watching no matter what. Taylor Kenny is out of a time, he is great but I am still watching. I hope he comes back soon though.
I love Chicago Fire and sorry to see McQueen leave.
I agree. I feel like I know these characters. I want to be able to see them succeed.
Please keep this and all the Chicago series going the wife and I look forward to them every week!
