The struggle (and story) of the Bowman family ends tonight. The Colony TV show has been cancelled after three seasons but, would you have watched more episodes and a fourth season? Should it have been dropped?
A USA Network sci-fi drama, Colony stars Josh Holloway, Sarah Wayne Callies, Tory Kittles, Peter Jacobson, and Alex Neustaedter. The story unfolds in the near-future, in a world where citizens are under military occupation by the Colony Transitional Authority, as part of a large extraterrestrial invasion. Former FBI agent Will Bowman (Holloway) and wife Katie (Callies) were raising their daughter and two sons in Los Angeles, but were separated from the younger boy during the invasion and did everything they could to get him back. The third season kicked off six months after the season two finale, with Will and Katie rebuilding their family in the world beyond the walls. They begin a journey during which they uncover the truth behind the occupation. Once again, this family finds themselves having to choose sides.
The show debuted in January 2016 and got off to a positive start with a 0.44 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 1.36 million viewers. The series lost some steam over the course of the season. The first year averaged a 0.38 rating with 1.13 million and it was renewed for a second season.
Season two of Colony launched in January 2017 and the 13 episodes ended up averaging a 0.26 demo rating with 814,000 viewers. Compared to season one, that was down by 31% in the demo and 28% in viewership. Still, Colony was renewed for a third year even before the season two finale aired.
USA didn’t start running season three until May 2018. Thus far, the third season has averaged a 0.17 demo rating with 672,000 viewers. Compared to last year, that’s down by 36% and 18%, respectively.
Colony is currently one of USA Network’s lower-rated scripted series but, other shows aren’t doing that much better. While it’s not a complete surprise that USA cancelled Colony, they could have easily renewed it to wrap up the story with a final season. Unfortunately, they opted to end the series after three seasons and 36 episodes.
What do you think? Do you think that USA should have cancelled the Colony TV show? Should the series have been renewed for a fourth (and final) season or, is season three a good place to end it?
Should have been given another season.
Oh noooooo…. I really enjoyed this show. I can’t stand it when they leave you hanging, they could have done a limited series and wrapped up the show. USA you are on my list now, Im not going to start watching your shows… Im so dissappointed!
Totally agree. With all the crap shows on every night of the week, why on earth can you allow such an intelligent, well-acted program to be canceled. This cancellation borders on criminal. BRING IT BACK.
I would have continued to watch a 4th season and beyond! NCIS struggled in the early years but is now one of the longest running shows, period. I’m disappointed in the hasty choice made by USA. What sucks most is there wasn’t an ending, happy or otherwise.
There should be a Season 4 to wrap up tbis story of the Colony! This cancellation makes me not want to watch anymore shows that dont have a final season! Not right to leave viewers hanging like that!
I would have watched a 4th season. Because it was a lot better than most cable TV shows.
I was very upset you did not provide a series finale
I completely agree with Bee
Yes, I would have kept watching. I found it to be an excellent show, with great show runners, great actors, and a great writing team.
Really disappointed in USA. This show deserved to see a real conclusion… Not a cliffhanger cancellation. Very unfair to loyal USA fans and Colony fans. #baddecision
I am like most of the other commentors I am really disappointed they cancelled this great sci-fi show. It left us hanging not knowing what was going to happen next. Last thing we saw was Will going in the pod. NOT FAIR to leave fans hanging like that. PLEASE BRING IT BACK or give another network the option to pick it up.
I completely agree!
Actors need to learn to shut their mouth about politics. as soon as Josh holloway insulted the trump ministration, their ratings plummeted and was canceled. When you insult a politician you alienate 50% of your viewers.
Absolutely! Husband and I gave up on Kiefer’s show “Designated Survivor” after it turned into non-stop liberal propaganda. And we, like many, were loyal 24 fans willing to give the show a fair chance. It was surely cancelled due to a huge viewer loss after it showed its true colors.
I don’t think that was the reason. Actors are entitled to their opinions and views. I don’t watch actors based on political views but on their acting.
This news really upsets me. Why are all the non-campy sci-fi shows cancelled? The Colony had great writing, great acting, and plenty of story left to tell. Terrible decision, USA. At least wrap up the show with one more season.
Really liked this show and was extremely disappointed when it so abruptly ended. USA network lost viewers!!!
I understand when they cancel a show but i cant understand ehy they didnt give it an ending. Tue viewers got lost in space!
I really hate it when a series end without a finale. I feel so betrayed! WILL NEVER WATCH ANOTHER USA CHANEL SHOW. JUST NOT FAIR TO THE FANS!
I tweeted that to them i mean so disrespectful to just leave ur dan base hanging like that after all this years watching
This was a well acted show with some good twists. Just got into the meat of the story with the last few episodes of Season 3. As others have mentioned, we had to wait too long for last season to start and viewers were lost. Suggest a movie or couple night mini series to wrap up all the loose ends? Please.
That is a great idea for a movie but I was really hoping that SYFY or another network would have picked up this thought provoking, well acted and well written show.
