The cast of White Collar got a chance to wrap up their series with a final short season but Covert Affairs won’t get that chance. USA Network has cancelled the series after five seasons, leaving fans with plenty of questions and no season six.
On Covert Affairs, operatives Annie Walker (Piper Perabo) and Auggie Anderson (Chris Gorham) work together in the CIA’s Domestic Protection Division (DPD). The show’s cast also includes Kari Matchett, Peter Gallagher, Hill Harper, and Nicholas Bishop.
The move to abruptly cancel the adventure spy series comes as a bit of a surprise but the decision reportedly all came down to money. USA owns the show but it’s not a cheap show to produce with rising talent fees and expensive location filming around the world.
In addition, the fifth season of Covert Affairs saw a big drop in the ratings — falling nearly 48% in the 18-49 demographic when compared to season four. Total viewership dropped 32%, to 1.54 million.
The final episode aired December 18th. Hopefully the producers will share what Annie’s decisions about her personal and professional life would have been.
What do you think? Do you like the Covert Affairs TV show? Do you think it should have been cancelled or renewed for a sixth season instead?
Why is it that the best shows disappear before shows that have a content of sex and violence? So I just read that they are cancelled it they have one low viewed season and they are gone. Don’t the 1.5 or so that faithfully watched count for anything? Oh , Money , I forgot about funding…. I have kept waiting for it to come up with this new rotating system of allowing us to view for 6 month or less then put another program in its place.
Covert Affairs was one of my favorite shows. My husband was also a fan. Loved seeing the various locations and the adventures taken by Annie and her cohorts. Sorry to see that this season was cancelled!
Just watched the final episode of season 5
So disappointed that there will not be season 6
Thoroughly enjoyed the series..Great actors and good story line
I have been watching this show since it started and always wait for the new seasons to come out I am sadden to see another great show go off the air. Hope it will give us more seasons.
Sad to see it go. Love the show.
Really sorry to see show cancelled!! Not in the demographic mentioned, but everyone I knew watched or recorded to watch later.
Enjoyed the marathon on CLOO station yesterday (Oct. 3, 2015). Too bad there won’t be more seasons. Didn’t like the “rush” to try to tie everything up at the end. That was way below the normal writing talent.
Cancelling season 6 of Covert Affairs was a BIG DISAPPOINTMENT!
I understand why the network had to cancel but it would have been nice to see an episode that didn’t leave us hanging as to what Annie’s future would have been.
Looks like the chickens are coming home to roost for this network as well as all others! Apparently ALL networks have seen falling viewings and ratings for all shows, especially new ones, in this falls premieres! Apparently that age group that all depend on to watch their shows and have taylored their shows for AREN’T WATCHING! The 18-24 aren’t watching and since these networks have dissed the older generation of TV watchers, like USA network did, and many others have, the older generation is saying why bother to watch when they’ll drop any show at any time to seek out… Read more »
I totally agree with you. I too have vowed not to watch any new series on USA. However, I will watch suits and royal pains until they are yanked. If my info is correct, USA is owned by Comcast so that really explains their goal of money being all important. Has anyone else noticed that TV shows time alloted to ads is almost the same as time alloted to the show?
We invest our time in a great show and they don’t even give us an ending. Burn Notice was an example of a great show like Covert Affair and they ended the show well. Sometimes I think they end good shows for no reason. . .
No it shouldn’t be cancelled. It is a great show and there are far too few good shows on the networks these days.
Bring it Back!!
Been watching reruns of Covert Affairs today thinking they were being shown to catch us up before the new season starts. Got online to see when that would be only to find my favorite show on tv is canceled. Why? One more intelligent show like White Collar canceled. I don’t know what’s worse for USA Network to just cancel a good show or to have an insulting short last season like they did with White Collar. Bottom line there’s not enough good shows on tv and it’s sad they canceled both of these.
I love this show. Was waiting for Annie’s decision. I am so bummed. Please do one more season….please.
Not sure why viewership dropped as this was one of the best shows on TV for understanding some of the issues of our times with other countries. Although probably from a prism of fiction/non-fiction, it gave a believable glimpse into people in other countries and cultures. The show and the cast are believable and entertaining. It would be nice to at least have a wrap up show so viewers know how Annie’s life plays out.
That is such a bummer. This was one of the most entertaining show USA has aired, I hate it when you get hooked on a show and I gets cancelled. Almost make a person not want to start watching any tv series, If USA wont renew contract maybe another station will. We can only hope
Hate to hear that. Loved the show!
