Last night, NBC aired the finale of Crossing Lines. The season ended on a cliffhanger that has viewers itching for season two. Will the show be renewed, or will it be cancelled instead?
Crossing Lines follows a former NYPD officer who’s become addicted to morphine and ends up working as a trash collector for a carnival in the Netherlands. The International Criminal Court recognizes his worth and recruits him to help investigate crimes that cross international borders.
The show stars William Fichtner, Marc Lavoine, Gabriella Pession, Tom Wlaschiha, Moon Dailly, Richard Flood, and Donald Sutherland.
The police procedural series debuted June 23rd to a disappointing 0.7 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 4.38 million viewers. The first hour ranked a distant third in its timeslot, easily beaten by a rerun of FOX’s Family Guy and the debut of Whodunnit? on ABC.
Though viewership is lower in the summer months, the peaock network could not be happy with these numbers. The later weeks saw them get even worse. Over the course of the season, Crossing Lines has fallen as low as a 0.5 demo rating and 2.51 million viewers.
If NBC were producing the Crossing Lines, there’d be no way that they would make a second season. There’s just not enough ad money to pay for the production.
Thankfully for fans, NBC doesn’t produce the show. Crossing Lines was jointly commissioned by TF1 in France and by Sony for their AXN channels.
NBC merely licenses the series so it costs them much less. Based on the ratings, it’s still extremely unlikely that the peacock network will air a second season.
However, there’s hope that another season will be produced by Sony and TF1. If that happens, another US channel could pick it up or, at the very least, episodes could be released on DVD. We’ll post any updates as they become available.
But, what do you think? Would you like to see a second season of Crossing Lines or should it be cancelled instead? Why didn’t more people watch? If NBC doesn’t want season two, which channel would be a better fit?
Why do the major networks always do this? Especially NBC. Get a good show going, and immediately cancel it.
Hope the show is NOT cancelled; visually beautiful, the storyline can go far…give it a chance. Americans should be exposed to European style entertainment..culturally it is a good thing.
I really enjoyed this show, and am tired of investing time in a series only to have it cancelled because it doesn’t meet some measurement that no one cares about.
Truly enjoyed the show. Smart, witty action cast and writing. It would be a shame to see it canceled because of low ratings, It aired in summer, I think the ratings were substantial for the season. Maybe try TNT, ION or Netflix. Not taking it to the next level is a mistake. Don’t be led astray by immediate gratification. Give it a chance.
PLEASE don’t cancel CrossingLines… Great characters,
Interesting plots and to many questionss left in final episode…I think if this aired a different night, it may have been watched more! Story line is different from typical shows airing on Sunday nights…
My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed this show from the first episode; interesting storyline, excellent cast, good writers with some beautiful locations thrown in, we would love to see it return. It was so nice to see people who could actually act, TV has become a vast wasteland for crude and greedy self-promoters with no talent but willing to do whatever it takes to make a buck.
I absolutely LOVED this show. I totally agree with David-I can’t believe people were not watching. I so hope another channel airs the 2nd season.
I feel in love with CROSSING LINES with the first episode and am totally hooked on the show!! It is very refreshing to have a good quality show with pretty of suspense, good quality acting, intelligently written storyline and has a fantastic cast!! I love the fact it is set in Europeon locations! I have watched some of the episodes over several times! NBC definitely needs to bring this show back …if they do not…it is their loss!! I agree Sunday is not the best night for it…Tuesday through Thursday would be a lot better!!
This was a unique and intelligent crime show. I am really tired of the plethora of reality TV and would like to see more of this kind of programming. The Networks are pushing us towards cable with their cookie cutter imagination. Crossing Lines should be renewed!
DON’T CANCEL!!!
Great show. good mix of characters. I always have been a fan of William Fichtner. Hope somehow we are able to see another season. Tired of seeing shows that I really like getting cancelled after just one season.
Yes… it needs to be returned… one of the best on TV
Please renew this great show. It’s true a mature audience understands and follows this. All the actors play great parts – Donald Sutherland being the base.
Enjoyed Crossing Lines…….good cast……locations……lots of action….can’t understand why it didn’t catch on…..hope they give it another chance.
Excellent show that sometimes takes 2 people to keep up with all the action. Unfortunately NBC is the worst for cancelling shows that have merit. I knew when we got interested in this show it was a mistake.
