We’ve received several emails from readers who love CSI: NY and are worried that it’s been cancelled. Will the show ever return? The simple answer is, “Yes, it’s on hiatus until March 30th.” But, while the TV series hasn’t been canned yet, Gary Sinise and company could certainly be in their final season.
It’s no secret that the ratings have declined over the years and that’s probably one of the reasons that CBS moved it to a Friday night timeslot. It still brings in a respectable 10 million viewers each week but is one of the network’s worst performer in the prized 18-49 demographic, even when you adjust for the Friday timeslot. Year-to-year, the show is also down by 7% in the demo.
At the recent TCA press tour, CBS entertainment president Nina Tassler noted that, though she loves the CSI shows, “Nothing runs forever. How you handle it, the most important thing is how you respect your audience, how you respect your cast, and being incredibly sensitive to how you wrap up any show when it ends a successful run. But we are in those talking stages now (about how to end the CSIs).”
It’s unlikely that CBS will end all three CSI series this year but they could certainly drop one or two of them. Based on the ratings, the New York version would be first in line to be cancelled.
What do you think? Is this the last season of CSI: NY? Should the series be cancelled or renewed for one more season?

I can’t believe that the networks ONLY listen to the younger viewer. Friday night viewers are older, or at the very least more into this type of programming. We have been so happy watching CBS for three hours straight on Friday nights. Great stories and better acting than any other network! Now they are going to screw it up!!!!!! Bummer!!!
Too bad! Good cast. So much better than CSI Miami….Miami group is just so intense and phony.
I hope they don’t end this show yet, it is the only CSI that isn’t cheesy and the characters are believable. Plus I love Gary Sinese in anything he does.
I live in Florida and I don’t miss this show, even when you had it on at 10pm I wacthed it the next day because I taped it. When you moved it to Friday I was so happy because Friday and Saturday nights are my family tv night. Gary Sinise is so hot and a great actor I follow his work. Please don’t cancel this show so many shows are being canceled because you are saying ratings are down. Did anyone ever think ratings are down because people cant afford cable or may be because so many families are living… Read more »
I love this show and hope they don’t cancel it – this is the only one I watch anymore!
I love this show so don’t dump it and I can bet you a lot of people in my age range do as well which by the way is way over 59 or the demographic age range you refer to . I am 74 and my passion and avocation and love is entertainment. From the age of a grade school kid to now I have loved the entertainment field. I majored in Speech and Drama in College , have seen hundreds of concerts, plays, movies, and the list goes on——————my point is this show is a great show with an… Read more »
Another typically narrow minded network execs perception that the only “demographic” that “matters” is 18 to 49. I’m sure it won’t be long before both NCIS shows are dumped for the same reasons. CBS is notorious for making incredibly idiotic programming decisions.
Based on the “18-49” business model, we will be doomed to more, stupid, mindless and moronic “reality” shows with no talent fools looking for their 12 seconds of fame and fortune.
We enjoy all the CSI shows. Just as we enjoyed all the Law and Order shows.
csi is my favorite shows and i look forward to fridays wish it was back on wednesdays and i sure wish that stella would come back don’t care for the other woman she squints her eyes to much trying to act smart but i do love gary and the others so please don’t take it off the air.
With CBS entertainment president Nina Tassler being hard core in the obama camp, and Gary Sinise being unashamedly Republican, I am actually surprised this show has lasted THIS long.
I love CSI New York. I don’t want it cancelled. Friday was perfect with Gifted Man, CSI New York and Blue Bloods. Don’t Cancell the Show!
and I have to include THE GOOD WIFE has to stay……just get rid of the mindless shows..let kiddie hour be earlier!!!!!!!!!
I do not think any of the CSIs should go….there are at least 15 other sitcom types that can go…and a couple of new dramas….BUT NOT THE CSI’s , MENTALIST ,BLUE BLOODS, SURVIVER, not the NCIS’s ,A GIFTED MAN, CRIMINAL MINDS, BIG BROTHER, AMERICAN RACE………leave these programs alone and dump all the mindless sitcoms and T&A shows (1 half men…was ALWAYS disgusting)……….
Will it be back on Fridays? I enjoy this CSI very much
Please no – it just got a new shot in the arm with the edition of Sela Ward – one of our favorite shows.
Do not cancel. The cast is great, especially Gary Sinese. All the networks have are reality shows. Keep the series, get some good writers.
