We’ve received several emails from readers who love CSI: NY and are worried that it’s been cancelled. Will the show ever return? The simple answer is, “Yes, it’s on hiatus until March 30th.” But, while the TV series hasn’t been canned yet, Gary Sinise and company could certainly be in their final season.
It’s no secret that the ratings have declined over the years and that’s probably one of the reasons that CBS moved it to a Friday night timeslot. It still brings in a respectable 10 million viewers each week but is one of the network’s worst performer in the prized 18-49 demographic, even when you adjust for the Friday timeslot. Year-to-year, the show is also down by 7% in the demo.
At the recent TCA press tour, CBS entertainment president Nina Tassler noted that, though she loves the CSI shows, “Nothing runs forever. How you handle it, the most important thing is how you respect your audience, how you respect your cast, and being incredibly sensitive to how you wrap up any show when it ends a successful run. But we are in those talking stages now (about how to end the CSIs).”
It’s unlikely that CBS will end all three CSI series this year but they could certainly drop one or two of them. Based on the ratings, the New York version would be first in line to be cancelled.
What do you think? Is this the last season of CSI: NY? Should the series be cancelled or renewed for one more season?

Well that stinks, CSI: NY is my favorite one, if any of them should be considered it should be the CSI: Miami, that one has definitely run its course. Not only do I really enjoy the show I love how well the actors were picked for their parts they fit really well together, it really surprises me that this one would be considered first to go.
The one That I think should go is Miami. It doesn’t
Seem to be as interesting as New York. The cast have
been chosen well for the characters that they portray
on the show. Csi: NY and Csi are my favorite shows .
Don’t cancel either one the are the the ones I really
like to watch. I look forward to seeing them both.
If any one of the Csi shows to be cancelled, I think
it should be Csi Miami. The cast is so irritating
to watch and listen to. Callie is my number one
choice to win the worst actress award along with
Horatio played by David Caruso for worst actor.
Everyone else to come in “last but not forgotten”.
please please don’t cancel csi:ny. it is one of my favorite shows on tv. gary sinise is the best along with all the other cast members.
I LOVE CSI NY! I look forward to it every week. The CSIs and Criminal Minds are the only things I watch on TV these days, what with all the dumb reality shows. That Friday night lineup is perfect just the way it is. I am very disappointed that they’re thinking of breaking up the set. I hate to see CSI Miami go also, but if CBS just NEEDS to take something off, that should be the one to go.
If you have to cancel a CSI, then Miami should be the one to go. That should have been cancelled a long time a go. I also agree that Under Cover Boss should go first. Gary does a lot of good things for veterans and he deserve the benefit of doubt. Do more stories with his band. It would make for good watching. I like NY better than the other two.
The line-up on Friday nights was good until CSI NY was removed from the 9 :00 p.m. time slot and replaced with Undercover Boss. The bottom line is that there are way too many reality shows and not enough quality programs like CSI NY, Gifted Man and Blue Bloods in a row on CBS. Please reconsider your programming changes. And if you are going to cancel a show please have a finale don’t just pull the plug.
Please keep CSI:NY. It is indeed the best of the three CSI programs and one of the best and most intelligent programs on CBS overall. If CBS needs an immediate time slot. get rid of Undercover Boss. With the job market so tight, to have someone suddenly show up to try out for a job being followed around by a camera crew; how stupid are the other employees not to figure it out? Yuk!!!!! What demographics is CBS using for this show?????? Good Grief!
I certainly hope you do not cancel CSI NY, listen it was bad enough you moved it to Friday nights, and then I got use to it been on Friday nights, in fact, I looked forward to having a good evening of television with Gifted Man, CSI NY and Blue Bloods. I was born and raised in NYC and moved to Georgia several years ago, CSI NY kept me connected to my roots and it would greatly sadden me if that show was cancelled, if your looking for a CSI to cancel, get rid of CSI Miami we can do… Read more »
i cannot believe that Hawaii five-o is doing better. so cbs messed it up again. there is a lot of us viewers that have intelligence and do not want to watch sitcoms. we are the older generation. we want good shows that require brains. if i want to watch a sitcom i will turn to the cable, much better shows. the csi’s are good. just a thought, why is saturday nite forgotten, a lot of us stay home, eat popcorn and watch cable-not cbs, not nbc, not abc.
Please don’t cancel the Friday night line up, Gifted Man, CSI NY & Blue Bloods. They are all top notch shows I really look forward to watching them on Fridays. I would rather see you cancel CSI the original and CSI Miami too many changes have left them lack luster shows and switching CSI Miami to sunday night killed it for me. I love Gary Sinise, he is such a fine actor and all the other cast members just click together, the choice to cast Sela Ward to replace Marina was brilliant she is wonderful in the show. UNDECOVER BOSS,… Read more »
Cancelling a show that I really like is not unusual for CBS–it’s happened so many times over the years and since I’m not in the demographic that they want watching I’m sure it will continue to happen. I’m still wondering where JAG went!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Of course, there’s the soaps I’d been watching since I can remember–ATWT and Guiding Light–I still miss the cast because they had become family over the years…in defense of CBS I can say they actually found two good shows in Gifted Man and Blue Bloods and since CSI:NY was between them it made a great night of… Read more »
Still cannot believe CBS is thinking taking this show off, it’s the best of all the CSI shows, PLEASE KEEP VOTING FOR IT.
If any on the CSI series are going to be cancelled, it should be CSI Miami. David Caruso is a bad clone of Jack Webb from “Dragnet”. CSI (Las Vegas) and CSI NY should definitely stay. And why the secrecy? Let viewers know when a series is going on hiatus or being cancelled, as in an announcement at the end of the last episode to be shown. We’ve been looking for CSI NY and been disappointed that “Undercover Boss” has taken their time slot. Leave “Undercover Boss” on Sunday nights. You had a good prime time lineup on Friday nights… Read more »
Cancel CSI New York? It;s the only one of the three shows in the franchise that even comes close to depicting real police work. If CBS cancels any one of the shows, it should be CSI: Miami. CSI: Miami bears no resemblance to actual forensic investigation. I mean, what investigator wears white slacks and stiletto heels to a crime scene? And never gets a spot on her… Also, if that arrogant moron Horatio Caine were a real police officer, his badge would have been taken away a long time ago. The original CSI has taken a giant leap into the… Read more »
