Next week, TNT’s Dallas will complete its third season — the first full one without JR Ewing. How’s the TV show done in the ratings? Will it be renewed for a fourth season or will it be cancelled instead?
Airing on Monday nights, Dallas continues to follow the machinations of the dysfunctional and powerful Ewing clan. The cast includes Josh Henderson, Jesse Metcalfe, Jordana Brewster, Julie Gonzalo, Brenda Strong, Patrick Duffy, Linda Gray, Mitch Pileggi, Emma Bell, Kuno Becker, and Juan Pablo Di Pace.
The third season began airing in late February and the first episode was down by 11% when compared to the second season opener. That was a reasonable decline but then the second installment dropped by 27%. The numbers dropped even lower as the season progressed.
Year-to-year, Dallas is down by 26% in viewership and down by 38% in the 18-49 demographic. It’s one of TNT’s lowest-rated scripted series and that’s not a good sign for the show’s future prospects. It also has a large cast so that means it’s not a cheap series either.
On the positive side, there’s some financial incentive to keep the show going. Dallas is produced by Warner Horizon Television which, like TNT, is part of the Time Warner corporation. Also, at the end of season three, there will only be 40 episodes. That’s not enough for a syndication package so if the execs are on the fence about whether to renew or cancel, that could work in the show’s favor.
I suspect that TNT will renew Dallas for a fourth season but, with ratings like these, the show could certainly be cancelled.
But, what do you think? Have you grown tired of the new Dallas TV series? Should it be cancelled or renewed for a fourth season?
Update: TNT has cancelled Dallas after three seasons. Details here.
Save Dallas!
Please renew Dallas for season 4 and many more seasons.
I love Dallas !TNT PLEASE DON’T CANCELL! I will look forward every Monday night with my favorite show
bring Dallas back. they have all done an amazing job and deserve to have a season 4. bring back some past characters from the old Dallas, I am sure if you do that the ratings will be much better!!

Dallas should be renewed love the show one of the best shows on….
I’ve loved season 3. I’m totally gripped, I hope season 4 is not the end.
Please keep the series going.
Jared Martin, who played Dusty on the original series, has said in interviews he didn’t enjoy his time on the original series very much and wasn’t a fan of nighttime soaps. It is unlikely he would want to return to Dallas.Concerning the idea regarding Bum, that is too far fetched even for Dallas considering we saw J.R. and Bum together many times. No one can replace Hagman, no one and even though I have seen ever episode of Dallas (old and new) that would be the end of the road for me. Victoria Principal isn’t returning so it is time… Read more »
Keep running Dallas
I fully agree there is to big of a laspe between show and people are not interested like this season was way to short and I don’t know when the next one will be gain. I am truly a fan love it and look forward to the next week so try to fix it to where there is more.
I think Dallas should come back for at least one more season. IF they are going to cancel it they owe it to the viewers not to leave them hanging. Finish on top and end it so there wont be another one. But I love me some Dallas.
Dallas needs a season 4. I watched Dallas from the first episode & was chuffed to bits it was brought back in 2012. There’s no other family like the Ewings.
Dallas is the best show on TV. I love Mondays. Need longer season.
Dallas should come back for another season, from winter to summer.
Bum should turn out have had plastic surgery because the cartel was after him, and to be JR which would be a soap opera thing to do. (Bet Larry Hagman would have approved, to keep the character alive).
Bring back Dusty.
I would think the actors are contracted for five years, so there is no need to give raises at this point.
