Next week, TNT’s Dallas will complete its third season — the first full one without JR Ewing. How’s the TV show done in the ratings? Will it be renewed for a fourth season or will it be cancelled instead?
Airing on Monday nights, Dallas continues to follow the machinations of the dysfunctional and powerful Ewing clan. The cast includes Josh Henderson, Jesse Metcalfe, Jordana Brewster, Julie Gonzalo, Brenda Strong, Patrick Duffy, Linda Gray, Mitch Pileggi, Emma Bell, Kuno Becker, and Juan Pablo Di Pace.
The third season began airing in late February and the first episode was down by 11% when compared to the second season opener. That was a reasonable decline but then the second installment dropped by 27%. The numbers dropped even lower as the season progressed.
Year-to-year, Dallas is down by 26% in viewership and down by 38% in the 18-49 demographic. It’s one of TNT’s lowest-rated scripted series and that’s not a good sign for the show’s future prospects. It also has a large cast so that means it’s not a cheap series either.
On the positive side, there’s some financial incentive to keep the show going. Dallas is produced by Warner Horizon Television which, like TNT, is part of the Time Warner corporation. Also, at the end of season three, there will only be 40 episodes. That’s not enough for a syndication package so if the execs are on the fence about whether to renew or cancel, that could work in the show’s favor.
I suspect that TNT will renew Dallas for a fourth season but, with ratings like these, the show could certainly be cancelled.
But, what do you think? Have you grown tired of the new Dallas TV series? Should it be cancelled or renewed for a fourth season?
Update: TNT has cancelled Dallas after three seasons. Details here.
Please do not cancel Dallas, it’s my favorite show!!!
Really??? thinking of Cancellation of Dallas? But renewing Shows like “The Walking Dead”? this brings up the question; which Show is reflecting the reality?
Dallas was showing since Episode 1 in 1978 what real life can be, and that was the reason why I watched and liked it from day 1. The new/Young actors are a great Addition to the series, but still, I miss JR. Please continue with DALLAS, I think, the younger Generation/Viewership needs to discover the Spirit of this Series.
Dear Gerry,
I love Dallas always have and always will. I hope, like you, that it isn’t cancelled but…
I also love the Walking Dead. But no matter what happens, I will always miss J.R.
Please put Dallas back on
You viewer ship is down because of the way you air the shows. You start a season and air 8 shows then stop it and bring it back at the end of the year to complete the season. Viewers are not going to keep waiting when there are other things to watch.
I really like the show. It had a great cast and the plot lines were great as well. Now Christopher is killed in an explosion and you end the show.
REALLY!.
The show was FANTASTIC. Bring it back
The writers want you to think Christopher is dead. You know when shows end this way, they come back with a rewrite, and Christopher is written back in. Maybe Christopher or Marlena was having a nightmare? And the plot thickens!!!!!!!!!!
Please have Season 4……………………………………, Soon.
Have another season
Dear Anonymous,
What would be another reason? Do you have one?
Please bring back “Dallas.” It’s one of my favorite shows. It’s just as good as the original, and maybe even better. The acting is fabulous, and it just keeps me on the edge of my seat; something always happening. It’s a great show with great actors…please bring it back.
Bring back DALLAS!!!! First you change the season timing, and now you cancel it? TNT, listen! If you are selling off this series, no problem, but if this is really true, you lost the pulse and your marketing team didn’t do something right, because the show is good.
Oh my you can’t be serious. Don’t cancel Dallas. I watched the original series and this one is even more exciting. Besides you can’t leave it hanging on a cliffhanger from 3rd season. How mean is that??? Surely you can do a forth season and bring it to an end although I want it to go along time. Please please please bring it back.
A little over the top at times, but overall one of the most fun shows on television. Canceling Dallas is a mistake. Reel in the sometimes unbelievable plot lines and it could survive nicely with a simple, basic family story and strength of characters. If Patrick Duffy wants to come back for one more year (or more), then TNT (or some other network) owes it to him to let that happen. Netflix, are you listening?
I agree . I am going to keep haunting TNT until they bring back DALLAS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
PLEASE RENEW DALLAS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
So wonderful to see your excitement for the next Dallas season however you must not have heard that this GREAT show was cancelled!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Yes its hard to believe it, but its true. I can only hope and pray that the producer hear the many fans of the show and bring it back just like they brought back Breaking Bad a show about DRUGS!!!!!
Long live DALLAS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Please keep Dallas on. I’ve watched it when I was a kid and was so glad to see it come back on. I like so many others will miss JR but John Ross and Christopher are the future of Dallas. Dallas was the high light of my week. It started the week off right. Dallas was and still is a great show.
PLEASE KEEP DALLAS!! I’VE WATCHED IT SINCE THE ORIGINAL SERIES BACK IN 1978.Its better now than ever! The actors & writers are in perfect sync. Bring DALLAS BACK….OUR FAVORITE SHOW!!!
Please don’t cancel Dallas. The show is fantastic. My husband and myself look forward to Dallas on Monday nights. My Mother in Indianana loves the show as well. My whole family watched it years ago when my children were young and it was on Friday nights. Larry Hagman JR awesome actor..Patric Duffy, Libda Gray and Victoria Principal. To watch the second generation was so exciting. Please do not cancel the show.
Please bring it back for a fourth season. Please do not cancel it!
I think DALLAS should be renewed because it is exciting and keeps you on your toes
about whats going to happen between John Ross, Bobby, and Bobby’s son, plus it’s a clean cut show and I LOVE IT and so does my son.
I can’t believe Dallas has been cancelled! Who believes the ratings? I don’t! Please keep DALLAS on 🙂
