What’s This TV Show About?
Streaming on the Netflix paid subscription platform, Degrassi: Next Class stars Amanda Arcuri, Amir Bageria, Soma Bhatia, Jamie Bloch, Chelsea Clark, Reiya Downs, Ana Golja, Nikki Gould, Ricardo Hoyos, Ehren Kassam, André Dae Kim, Lyle Lettau, Spencer Macpherson, Eric Osborne, Parham Rownaghi, Dante Scott, Olivia Scriven, Sara Waisglass, Richard Walters, Dalia Yegavian, Stephanie Moore, Michael Brown, and Stefan Brogren.
Set in Toronto, Ontario, the fifth series in the Degrassi television franchise, the Degrassi: Next Class TV show centers on the students at the Degrassi Community School. Despite the half-hour format, there are serial elements to the storylines. Episodes and seasonal arcs typically shine a spotlight on the kind of issues adolescents have to grapple with, as they grow into young adults. Body image, appearance, social media, gender identity, sexuality, sexual activity and consent, race and racism, mental health, and cultural acclimation are among the themes of Degrassi: Next Class.

Telly’s Take
Because Degrassi: Next Class airs on Canada’s F2N TV channel, its cancellation and renewal chances depend — at least in part — on its Canadian ratings. On top of that, Nielsen doesn’t monitor or report on the performance of streaming TV series, so it is difficult to gauge how a Netflix show is doing, unless the platform publicizes it. Flying blind, I suspect F2N will renew Degrassi: Next Class for season five, and Netflix will follow suit. This long-running franchise has developed a fiercely loyal fanbase. Last I heard, series co-creator Linda Schuyler was brainstorming seasons five and six. Now, while we don’t track television ratings in Canada, from my perch, I can see when our neighbors to the North cancel or renew TV shows, so I’ll update this page with any breaking developments. Stefan Brogren confirmed on his Twitter account today that the show has ended. This should really be updated.
Degrassi is not dependant at all on Canadian ratings. The numbers on this show have been falling since season 5 (this would be considered season 18 or 19 I think). The show was always underwritten by the Canadian equivalent to America’s PBS. If you look at the end of every show, you’ll see it in the credits. F2N is Canadas family channel so probably gets the show for free. Degrassi NC almost didn’t happen when Nickelodeon, who created the sub network ‘The N, ‘ now Teen Nick, mainly as a way to show Degrassi The Next Generation in the US.… Read more »
When is the degrading going to return it been two years since new one came on
Seems highly unlikely that it will continue if they waited over a year to make a decision. I always figured the Netflix pickup was just to give fans a chance to get closure for the last real reamaining long term class…the Maya, Zig, Zoe, Tristan class
I’ve known other shows to wait at least a year before coming out with a new season. Including the Librarians and Milo Murphy’s Law. Maybe there will e another season to wrap up what happens with all the students still at Degrassi. I think this because unlike in previous seasons where they introduce new characters at least a season ahead of time there were no new characters introduced. If thee is a season five, fingers crossed, it will most likely be the last season.
When will season 5 be on netflix in the states?
it has to be renewed bc degrassi is legit second best on Netflix it goes riverdale then degrassi you cant cancel its just not right if u do
Degrassi next class was renewed almost a year ago for season 5 AND 6. Season 5 should be released soon according to the previous seasons’ release dates. I can’t find any info!
i had the release date info wrong, they are filming now, not supposed to release now, but i am hoping the release is soon!

If this show cancelled I don´ know what I would do!!!!!! It has to go on forever, and I don´t care how many generations this will take. I just cant live without this!!!!!!! doesn´t Lola,Frankie,Hunter, etc. all the other characters from TNG have to graduate. I really don´t hope it cancels.

Yea, i been watching since i was 11 and now 27. I love this show and the characters so much. I feel like I’d be losing part of myself without degrassi to turn to. I guess i live vicariously through the characters and to have it not renewed breaks my heart.

I’m 27 and still like the show. I liked it back in the day when I was 10+ years younger and still like it now. Didn’t skip a beat.
