Charlie Sheen and CBS’ Two and a Half Men have played havoc with the other network’s schedules for years. The sitcom is one of the top-rated shows on television and sometimes reruns outperform the competition. Now, Sheen is helping ABC for a change.
ABC News has landed an exclusive interview with the troubled actor and will air it on Tuesday night on a special edition of 20/20. The special edition will no doubt get huge ratings.
To make room for the interview, ABC has once again pre-empted Detroit 1-8-7, the network’s lowest-rated scripted series. From a ratings standpoint, just about anything they can put in that timeslot will perform as well or better than Detroit 1-8-7. Last week’s special edition of Primetime garnered a 1.4 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 4.14 million viewers. That’s certainly not a great performance but it is 14% better than the previous episode of Detroit 1-8-7.
As frustrating as this may be to fans of the crime drama, ABC isn’t likely to stop pre-empting it. On the positive side, Detroit 1-8-7 remains on next week’s schedule, for now at least. At this point, the show is all but cancelled and the network is essentially burning off the remaining episodes. There are three episodes left in this season and there’s no way that its coming back for season two.
What do you think? Will ABC get around to airing the three remaining episodes of Detroit 1-8-7?
Usually I have to choose between watching D187 and recording Parenthood or vice-versa. Looks like this week I won’t have to record anything.
This really ruffles my feathers! This is a great show that caters to an audience with a hunger for some GREAT PROGRAMMING and here we go again, ABC cancels it. I for one am not watching abc any longer. They continually cancel quality programs like Detroit 187 and substitute some stupid, inane, crude and insulting sitcom or reality show. Just because the nitwits running abc enjoy this crap does not mean the huge audience of educated and ethical viewers want it in their homes. ABC…..you are really dropping the ball yet AGAIN!! I really hope this quality program shows up… Read more »
I can’t believe you’d cancel a quality show like d187. The scripts are great and the interaction among the characters is realistic. Please, at the least, air the last 3 episodes! Then sell the series to another network.
By the way, the sheen is really off Sheen.

It seems as if every time I start watching a new show and discover I actually like it, the show gets cancelled. Detroit 1-8-7 was the only new one I watched this season. The characters, especially the quirky Fitch, were very believable. Please TNT or USA, take a look at it.
Love this show. Now we will be left with police shows that solve murders with forensics. Please enough already!! Hopefully another network will see how good it is and pick it up. I think abc at least owes it to the fans to finish the last three episodes, even if they change the timeslot. I would watch this show whenever it was on.
Detroit puts Hawaii 50 to shame. At least this show has some plot lines. So again we see a quality show that just needs stability and a little duration to find its legs. Another reason to watch Netflix.
When I look at the shows the major networks consider successful, it makes me sick. They pull everything of quality like Detroit 187 and Chase, yet they keep trash tv that has no merit or storyline. The mainstream media strikes again and just prove their ignorance. They don’t even give really good shows a chance to succeed!
FOX-USA-TNT all appear to give there shows a chance to develop and gain an audience. I understand there is money invested, however the 3 networks are so quick to dump shows so fast. Detroit 1-8-7 is a wonderful show with great actors. I can’t believe a show as well written as Hill Street Blues or NYPD Blue was not given a fair chance. Put Charlie Sheen and Lindsay Lohan behind us and let actors who are willing to work with out the big ego’s continue to entertain us
My husband and I love this show. I hope they don’t cancel it. I can’t believe anyone cares to sink an hour into Charlie Sheen. Isn’t it bad enough we have to listen about him on the news? Please if anyone cares leave Detroit 187. Maybe the ratings are lo because there is no continuity when ABC has 20/20 interrupts for spoiled actors? Does anyone agree with me?
WHO but MORONS would watch a NO TALENT DEGENERATE like ole charlie, what a WASTE!!! Detroit 187 is FILLED with talent!! WAKE UP ABC!! If they don;t a cable channel will pick them up and BLAST ABC out of the water!!!
love the show would hate to see it go.Give it a chance please
I am going to miss Detroit 187–I think it is one of the best of it’s kind out there!!!
Detroit 187 is a well writen tv show. It would be a shame if it gets cancelled. I think we should do any thing we can to help our larger cities. Detroit is struggling, the networks should give the show a chance. My husband says Detroit 187 reminds him of Homicide, another well writen show with a good cast, that is no longer on tv.
ABC what is your problem? You have a first rate show w/ Detroit 187.
There used to be a show called “Hill Street Blues,” that was also due to be cancelled until the fans let the network know how they felt.
Wonder if that works anymore?
Detroit 1-8-7 is not going to get picked up by another network if or when it gets cancelled. ABC never lets their shows go, even if they kill them, because they have no clue how to market shows properly. I love the show, but the end seems near for it and I know it will stay dead and probably never be released on DVD either (like the other short lived ABC shows Eastwick, The Forgotten, and The Gates). I will continue to watch the show until the very last episode. If this show had been on a Network that give… Read more »
