On Tuesday, ABC pre-empted Detroit 1-8-7 with a special edition of 20/20 in which Diane Sawyer interviewed Congresswoman Gabrielle Gifford’s husband about the Tucson shooting. Based on the preliminary ratings for the program, ABC made a good choice. It attracted a 1.3 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 6.18 million total viewers. While those aren’t great numbers, they’re a 30% improvement over last week’s episode of Detroit 1-8-7 (1.0 in the demo with 5.05 million).
Next week, the cop drama will be replaced by the annual State of the Union address. Right now, Detroit 1-8-7 is scheduled to return on February 1st but one has to wonder if that will actually happen. ABC has a track record of pre-empting low-rated shows with the intention of bringing them back but it just never happens.
The network has ordered 18 installments of Detroit 1-8-7 and 12 of those have aired so far. It would seem like a waste not to air the remaining six but the same could be said for the leftover seven episodes of The Whole Truth. If ABC can keep coming up with specials that will perform better, we may likely have seen the last of low-rated Detroit 1-8-7.
What do you think? Will Detroit 1-8-7 return to the regular schedule or lost in hiatus and cancelled?

I love this show. We’ve already lost Law and order please don’t lose this one!
For sure bring it back, I haven’t followed a show since the great days of NYPD Blue. Fitch is like the second coming of Sipowitz. Keep it and keep the good cop shows going, well written and good to see the streets of Detroit and some old haunts..let ABC know its got a following we’re just not needy to let everyone know we watch..a la cheesy reality show followers!
PLEASE DO NOT CANCEL THIS GREAT SHOW. I WAS HOOKED AFTER WATCHING THE FIRST EPISODE. I REALLY LIKE THE CHARACTERS AND STORY LINES. I FEEL THAT I HAVE LEARNED ALOT ABOUT THE CITY OF DETROIT. PLEASE SAVE THIS VERY INTERESTING AND ENTERTAINING SHOW. IT IS JUST NOT THE RUN OF THE MILL POLICE SHOW. IT IS MUCH BETTER!!!
I LOVE Detroit 187 – please don’t cancel!!
Please don’t cancel Detroit 187 . It’s one of the only shows that my husband and I actually watch together.
“Detriot 1-8-7….Great Show. WHY do network execs and advertisers use the 18-39 demographic..?? Economists and Money folk say ‘The Boomers” have the most disposable income in the history of the USA, and are freely spending it.
This was the best new show of the 2010/2011 season so far– even though it wasn’t a huge departure from the basic formula followed by many other “cop shows”. It will be a shame if it’s cancelled.
Detroit 187 is just building up there veiwing ,I’m betting they will air on Feb 1st, if you notice anything put in this time slot has low ratings, its not the show its the timeslot, its on too late for the 18-49 working person that has to be up at 5 am!!!! ABC put this show on at 9pm and the veiwers will be there!!! Great show really starting to hook us in………………….
Please keep this show on. It is one of the better cop shows
It is a good show – Very credible. It was in a tough time slot. How many taped it as I did? I watched every episode on delay. It was a higher quality show than many others. Properly slotted and properly advertised, it could be a hit!
The Detroit 1-8-7 folks have been tremendously supportive of my Cappuccino Man business. i have served on the1-8-7 set 8 times. In Detroit these days the movie and tv biz has helped the local economy tremendously. Most people I have spoken to really enjioy the show and hope it returns for a 2nd season.
Finally a good detective show with believable actors and real stories. DETROIT 1-8-7 Love this show. I have been tellling all my friends about it. Leave it on, please
I have enjoyed Detroit 187 this season and would hope that ABC finishes the segments they has planned to air. Please do not cancel.
