There’s some more bad news for fans of ABC’s Eastwick. Not only has the series been cancelled but the last episode is going to leave several storylines unresolved.
Eastwick follows a trio of ladies (Rebecca Romijn, Lindsay Price, and Jaime Ray Newman) from a New England town who discover that they have supernatural powers, thanks to a handsome newcomer, Darryl Van Horne (Paul Gross). The rest of the show’s cast includes Ashley Benson, Johann Urb, Jon Bernthal, Sara Rue, and Veronica Cartwright.
The series struggled from the very beginning of its run, mustering just a 3.0 rating in the demo and 8.5 million viewers for its premiere. The second week fell to a 2.3 rating and 6.57 million. Things got even worse after that. Last week’s episode hit a series low of a 1.5 and 4.4 million viewers.
Based on these numbers, it comes as little surprise that ABC decided to cancel the struggling drama after 13 episodes. On the bright side, it looks like all of the installments will air. Unfortunately, it doesn’t look like fans will be getting any closure for the many ongoing storylines.
In an interview with EW, executive producer Maggie Friedman said that she was furious over the cancellation. She said, “We have such an amazing group of writers and actors — best people I’ve ever worked with. None of us can believe this is really happening.”

Of the possibility of closure, Friedman said, “We’re smack in the middle of several insanely juicy stories. And so we do not get a chance to wrap things up in a bow. Which is killing me.”
She concluded, “The magic was getting crazy, the storylines were getting really exciting and sexy and dangerous… I [just] wish we could’ve given the fans — and ourselves — real closure.”
While it’s unfortunate that ABC has cancelled a series that millions of people enjoy, it’s no secret that the show has been on the chopping block for some time.
The network gave full season orders to its most of its freshman shows a month ago and Eastwick was left out. Coupled with the terrible ratings, just about everyone who follows the industry knew that Eastwick was on borrowed time. Why was Friedman so surprised by the cancellation?
Other shows who’ve been on shaky ground have found a way to give some closure while leaving some loose threads, just in case the show was renewed. Shouldn’t that have been the case with Eastwick?
What do you think? Who’s to blame for Eastwick’s lack of closure? ABC, the writers, or just plain old black magic?

reality shows….be damned! Entertainment yes and EASTWICK had it all, what is wrong with ABC…..yes and what happened to Number 11……ABC is very unprofessional in their choice of what viewers want….skip a show and no explanation!! This show Rocks and should not be cancelled…..if so i will never watch ABC again!! I will just skip you!!
I thought it was getting really good!!! It’s one that I never miss!!! What really ticks me off is the networks DO NOT give shows a chance. I have a friend that’s a writter on a show that premiers in March and after filming 5 episodes they have already cancelled the show. They will air those 5 shows but what the heck the networks need to chill out and let shows run the whole seasons. That’s why no one starts new shows because we know they’ll be cancelled so why even start?????
I really don’t care whos to blame,I want my EASTWICK. I just love that show and you gave us 12 not 13 shows and show 11 was totaly skipped all together.I’v DVRed all of them and 11 is not there and my girlfriend as the same ones as I do.We are both not happy about this.
VOTE FOR LIFETIME TO PICK IT UP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
[…] E mesmo assim não teremos uma chance de fechar as coisas. Isso está me matando “. O site TV Series Finale diz que Maggie deveria ter sudo mais previdente: “Embora seja lamentável que o ABC tenha […]
This show was a lot better than most. 8 million viewers isn’t bad when you consider how many channels there are to watch and how many other things in life there are to do. ABC didn’t promote this show very well either, maybe some of the blame lies with them. I suppose there are also internal politics to consider as with most things. Hopefully another network may pick it up. After all there are successful vampire shows so the subject matter isn’t that far fetched.
Maybe another channel will buy and air at a better time and ABC will be sad that they gave up so prematurely.
Let’s put a spell on it!
Eastwick is such a great show! When I first started watching it, the show reminded me a little bit of Charmed; however, I got really into it. The plot turned out to be great. There is always a cliffhanger at the end of the show. Overall, I think the cast does a great job. Eastwick should not be canceled.
The problem is with the show. The first episode wasn’t great. It didn’t leave me wanting to know more. However, I watched it weekly. It gets better throughout the series, like on episode 9 (the girls tell each other they have powers). This was done so late. It should have been done on the 4th episode at least. It was silly. I enjoy the show though.
COME ON EVERYBODY LETS GO VOTE FOR LIFETIME TO KEEP THE SHOW RUNNING!!! GO MAKE AN ACCOUNT THEN VOTE THEN COMMENT THENNNNNN WATCH OUR SHOW ON LIFETIME!! YAAAYYY! LIFETIME ARLEADY HAS A POLL SO THAT MEANS THEIR SOMEWHAT INTERESTED SO LETS GO CLOSE THE DEAL!!

I am appalled at ABC for canceling yet another good show. Eastwick has a cast chalked full of energy and spice. I am at the point that I am going to quit watching ABC shows all together. I was mad when they canceled “Invasion” back in 2005. The least they could do is allow the writers and cast to act out an ending so we are not left hanging. ABC, not all of your shows can be the biggest hits such as Lost, Desperate Housewives, Private Practice and so on. I don’t care for the police/investigation and reality shows. I… Read more »
When I saw the previews for Eastwick, I was really excited. I saw the first episode and thought it was only so-so. Because of my initial interest in the show, I wanted to give it a chance, so I continued to watch. The show has gotten steadily better, and I have really gotten into it. I think the ratings problem has to do with the improper promotion and the fact that the first episode wasn’t a winner. Even though an 8.5 rating for the first episode is kind of low (it could have done better with better promotion) it isn’t… Read more »
OMFG!the episode that aired on 12/2 was so freakin awesome, i was sittin on the edge of my couch4most of it!how could ABC do this2us just cause we not part of neilsen project if we were there’d be no way in hell they’d cancel our show! there r so many other braindead shows out there that r going strong still n i wonder how the hell did that show get ANOTHER season dammit!m still loyal2desperate housewives n flashforward otherwise i would quit ABC
I’m praying that another network will pick up Eastwick. Wouldn’t that be wonderful for all the fans of this terrific show.
I keep hoping that a miracle will happen and some network will pick it up. Although, the other nite, the show rushed into the plot so quickly that it was obvious that they were planning to end the show real quick. It was strange and I had a feeling that it was going to be canceled. They finally got a showing of a tv show called Eastwick that is fantastic and fun! And then they cancel it! They finally got it right, the writers and the actors. If they only gave it more time, who knows what would’ve happened? I… Read more »
