What’s This TV Show About?
Airing on the NBC television network, Emerald City is the tale of a young woman named Dorothy Gale (Adria Arjona). She finds her true strength and identity as she battles to bring a divided world together. An all-powerful ruler called the Wizard (Vincent D’Onofrio) governs over one kingdom. He has outlawed magic and faces a looming disaster brought on by a mythical force — as well as the wrath of a growing cauldron of witches. The rest of the cast includes Oliver Jackson-Cohen, Ana Ularu, Mido Hamada, Gerran Howell, Jordan Loughran, and Joely Richardson.
Season One Ratings
The first season of Emerald City on NBC averaged a 0.72 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 3.02 million viewers. Compare its standing against the other NBC TV shows we are tracking. This fantasy series has been on a rocky road. It was supposed to film in 2014 and air in 2015 but NBC cancelled production due to creative differences. The network reversed that decision in April 2015 and hired a new showrunner. The series didn’t premiere until January 2017 and was given a Friday night timeslot. That leads me to think they may not have much faith in the series. The ratings have been quite poor, even for a Friday night show. Unless something magical happens to lift the ratings, I believe the Emerald City series is doomed to be cancelled. Sorry, Dorothy. 5/5 update: Emerald City has been cancelled by NBC. There will be no second season. Details here.

What do you think? Do you think the Emerald City TV show should have been renewed for a second season? How do you feel about NBC’s cancelling this TV series?
As soon as I saw Emerald City advertised on UK TV I instantly found it & selected to record the whole season. My 11 year old daughter & I watched the whole season over a few nights but anxiously waiting & hoping for another season. We found it to be very impressive with the twists on the classic & could not wait to watch the next episode every time we had to turn the TV off.
Roll on the next season!!
so sad that a show that my friends and I loved got cancelled because it had such promise as a fresh new story instead of more of the same. I guess that ratings count more than actually viewers these days, just because the young don’t watch it on a Friday night well that demographic these days is also the same demographic that made the Kartrashians a household name they enjoy stupid reality shows instead of well thought out dramas
Just found out the other day it had been cancelled and it’s breaking my heart. LOVED this show.
I love the show did not even realize it existed until just the other day. Started to watch and was so excited then on the tenth show went to get look at season two and was so upset to see that there was not going to be a season 2. Please do a servey to bring the show back for another season!!!!!!!!!!!

NBC what are you doing pulling a series like this? Do you remember what happened with FOX when they decided to stop Firefly, the fans kicked up so much a film had to be made to tie up the loose ends the first series left open. If you had put it on during the week you would have had a better following, but instead you decide to air it on a Friday night when most people are out enjoying themselves after a hard week at work. The writers have already told you that a second series has been written and is… Read more »
It’s a shame when a show like this, that brings us something fresh and original based on a classic is ignored by the studio because of first year ratings, sometimes you need to let a show breathe. But, of course all you care about is money.
YES to season two
So angry. I watched this show faithfully. My husband started to watch it with me. It was one of the few shows that we watched together. We were both looking forward to the second season!!! Bring it back!!!!
I really loved this show and was really looking forward to watching it next season!!! They always seem to cancel all the shows that I like to watch! ☹️
I am so disappointed. I loved the show I have been checking and checking for the next episode. I actually never even watch television series what so ever. So this one catching my attention and keeping me hooked was a surprise. Oh well movies it is. :/
I really liked Emerald City. I hate that every time a show is good the network decided to cancel the show because of ratings. Sometime you need to keep interesting show on air instead the reality shows. Drama and action is a lot better than someones reality show.
Maybe we can get Netflix to pick it up

That’s a bummer the show was cancelled. Really liked it.
Super bummed about hearing EC was cancelled. I just started Season 1 last night and binge watched it through to midnight tonight. Would really like to see more on this story.
The way I work I really have no time for t.v but when I do I usually use Hulu or Netflix regardless I’ve watched this show from start to finish and now all I have are questions as to what could happen. Next season had lots of potential kinda pissed I vested this time and now I want see the story unfold
