Doctor Henry Morgan may be immortal but his TV show isn’t. ABC has cancelled the Forever TV series after one season of 22 episodes.
On the Forever TV show, New York City’s star medical examiner (Ioan Gruffudd) can ascertain things that most can not because of his vast experience — he’s been alive for 200 years but can’t figure out the how or the why. The rest of the cast includes Alana de la Garza, Lorraine Toussaint, Donnie Keshawarz, Joel David Moore, and Judd Hirsch.
The series debuted last September to a 1.5 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 8.26 million viewers. The ratings grew for episode two but they started falling after that.
Though the Forever series had some very passionate fans, that devotion didn’t translate into positive ratings. The numbers were pretty poor for much of the season and the show ended up averaging a 1.12 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 4.93 million viewers.
As a result, ABC has decided against ordering a second season of Forever. The last episode aired earlier this week and unfortunately left viewers with lots of unanswered questions.
What do you think? Did you like the Forever TV show? Do you think it should have been cancelled or renewed for a second season? Why do you think it didn’t catch on with a larger audience?
The sheer number of comments here should show someone that the show is well liked. I wish they would reconsider.
I am very sad the show was cancelled. Finally found something to watch that was very creative. they said it did not do well in their demographics, but what about we older folks. We need something to watch too. After this, I will find it hard to watch ABC again. Please reconsider your decision.
It’s all about the money, people! Once again, a network would rather stick with the familiar than further invest in something original. ABC has committed itself to Marvel (Disney owned) product and that’s why they’re renewing low rated Agents of Shield and Agent Carter (shows I never watch). They also are committed to their partnership with producer Shonda Rhimes, who has produced a lot of hits for the network, so even when an aging show like Grey’s Anatomy ( another show I never watch) should be axed, they keep it going. Because of the Disney connection, Once Upon a Time… Read more »
Sandra, my sentiments exactly. Loved this show, but not surprised by its demise. After all , these Networks forget who has the bucks. And besides they think reality shows are inspiring….really?
One of my all time favs was “Men In Trees”. Doomed after two seasons. I wish there had been more seasons of this show. Not even a DVD to buy!
Maybe if enough of us viewers write in, we could save it as we did with Longmire, although Netflix thankfully picked it up.
ABC really are a bunch of idiots. First they push the scientifically debunked global warming nonsense propaganda constantly, now they cancel Forever.
It’s time for a Kickstarter campaign, I know I’d donate money to get a season 2.
This show would have caught on with larger audiences with a bit more time. So many new shows have been coming and going that many people have never had time to get to know this one. It has an interesting and different story line and the actors are all great! I will follow this show wherever it may go, I only hope someone picks it up. Why is it that all the really good shows seem to disappear too soon? I myself am glad I took the time to start watching this one and now that my husband is hooked… Read more »
Bad choice! Me and my husband love this show. We watch it every week all of the actors and actress they play the role so well. I hope that some other chanel picks up the show!

Bad choice to make that move, ABC. Introduce it to a better spott on the schedule, plus tinker with the season and timing and marketing. Give definitive orders to the producer to get the writers to work on the romantic relationship, plus the personal relationship with Abe and pershaps the asst detective and /or the ast medic. It’s a great show which is starting slow like Castle did, but shoul take off with a Killer like Adam associated with the show.
Its been 12 hours since i heard the news. Just watched an episode. I am really going to miss them; Abe, Jo, Lucas, Jo’s partner, the lieutenant and of course Henry . In a really good show/story the characters come alive. I want to know happens to them and how they got there. I will not know now. I do hope it can find a new home.
They renewed Galavant for gods sake!
I guess Galavant appeals to the 9-year-olds they want, who buy cars and lust after models. Monty Python it’s not.
Great show. I looked forward to it every week. I can’t understand how this show would be cut. Great cast, well written, unique plot that could easily be expanded on. What more could you want? I believe this is a mistake, and I hope that another network picks it up because I and many like me will be waiting to pick up where ABC left off.
Well, looks like we’re headed for another idiotic reality show, or one for the 18-49 group that love those good old scatological, t@a, innane-plotted comedies. Hmmm, or how about another crime show? I personally think we need a few more cities represented in CSI and NCIS, and Law and Order! Well, I should actually be pleased from a financial standpoint. This pretty much eliminates any further need for Comcast. Streaming TV here I come!
I am very disappointed in the news of Forever’s cancellation by ABC. I happen to be 38 years old and am “was” an avid watcher of this show. I personally don’t go in for the over-dramatized reality television shows. How many chef shows & survivors can there be? It’s nice to be able to relax & enjoy a down to earth show that has a bit of mystery and some actual intelligence to it. I enjoyed all of the actors performances each week & gasped at the last scene of the final episode. I would’ve waited an entire summer in… Read more »
I love this.kyle xy
Totally
Wow!!! I can’t believe that this has happened. My heart is broken to pieces. Now what in the heck am I supposed to watch? They get rid of a great show but leave the mindless crap shows on. It’s a classy and intelligent television show that I guess is not worldly and raunchy enough to intrigue “today’s” audience. Anyway this was the news that I didn’t want to hear. What I would love to hear is oops! We messed up so We are going to renew “Forever” for another season. That would really unbreak my heart. Please please put it… Read more »
I’m so said to see a good show cancelled, when there are other shows that should be cancelled…Hope someone picks it up…liked actors and idea of show…
Just a shame…..
I love the Forever tv show! Finally, a smart show that I looked forward to watching every Tuesday night. Why don’t they cancel all the stupid, offensive ones instead? Please bring it back!
