Doctor Henry Morgan may be immortal but his TV show isn’t. ABC has cancelled the Forever TV series after one season of 22 episodes.
On the Forever TV show, New York City’s star medical examiner (Ioan Gruffudd) can ascertain things that most can not because of his vast experience — he’s been alive for 200 years but can’t figure out the how or the why. The rest of the cast includes Alana de la Garza, Lorraine Toussaint, Donnie Keshawarz, Joel David Moore, and Judd Hirsch.
The series debuted last September to a 1.5 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 8.26 million viewers. The ratings grew for episode two but they started falling after that.
Though the Forever series had some very passionate fans, that devotion didn’t translate into positive ratings. The numbers were pretty poor for much of the season and the show ended up averaging a 1.12 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 4.93 million viewers.
As a result, ABC has decided against ordering a second season of Forever. The last episode aired earlier this week and unfortunately left viewers with lots of unanswered questions.
What do you think? Did you like the Forever TV show? Do you think it should have been cancelled or renewed for a second season? Why do you think it didn’t catch on with a larger audience?
Amazing show, for the whole family! I cannot believe ABC cancelled it… So wrong! Can another channel please pick this show up?
Please – PLEASE shave this show. It was “appointment TV” in our home, and for many, many of our friends. Not sure who is tracking the ratings….but no one asked us!
Give this well-written, well-acted and engaging shows on TV.
PLEASE give it a chance….PLEASE!!!! We are sick of the same ole, same ole on TV- this was one of the few exceptions!
Devastated!!!!! A different, interesting and make you think show cancelled after only one season. At least give it a chance. Also loved the cast! Shows like The Bachelor stay on but not this show? I’m bummed.
I thought this was very creative, out of the ordinary and well worth watching. Some viewers, like myself, are so tired of reality show after reality show. This was a refreshing change of pace. Once again, the network, ABC in this case, has rushed to cancel and not given a chance to this wonderful show. The characters are well represented by the actors that play them. The story line has been intriguing leaving us wanting more and asking the questions that have been developed and answered throughout this season. I truly wish that ABC would rethink this decision. This is… Read more »
I agree, I love Forever. I couldn’t wait till it came on the next week. Very sad it was cancelled. Please ABC rethink your decision. It is a wonderful show, its worth keeping.
I can’t tell you what makes a good show, but I know this one I watched every week either when it aired or after it was recorded. I looked forward to new episodes and enjoyed every single one. I was intrigued with the concept and found the story interesting and the characters endearing. I was surprised and saddened to hear that it was being cancelled. I am sure that Forever would be one of your top performers in a better time slot. ABC, I ask you to reconsider your decision and slot the show in a better time slot. If… Read more »
I hate it when the big networks don’t put in the effort for a good show! Our family LOVED Forever! I wish they would have given it more time, they never had time to develop the romance that the audience was waiting for. Another good show gone. How sad!
We see this happen over and over again. Networks bring to us a great show only to cancel it after one or two seasons. These shows have story lines and passion. The shows that are so ridiculous and make me wonder why money would be spent on such nonsense continue to grace the airwaves. You need to reconsider cancelling such a good show
Why is it that an intelligent show gets cancelled while the imbecilic fluff that does nothing but lower my faith in humanity gets renewed? Good writing, excellent actors, original plot and weekly shows that keep us guessing as to whodunit – which is unusual for my husband and I, who usually have the murderer figured out by 15 minutes into a show. Please, I know my plea is likely in vain, but please change your mind and renew ‘Forever’ or perhaps sell it to another studio so they can make the money you will lose out on. Thanks.
bad decision! Why do they cancel shows that are different from all the run of the mill shows? Characters are interesting and likable, storyline is unique. They need to keep this one.
I agree! The show is amazing, it was a combination of mystery drama and romance! Why are they canceling it??? I’m really not happy Bout this!
I’m really sad that ABC is cancelling Forever !!! I thought it a was one of the best new shows on !!! Will really miss it !!! What a terrible decision on ABC ‘s part !!!
Renew this show! So few quality and even wholesome tv shows ever air on tv nowadays. I’m the kind of person who would buy the show on DVD, blu-ray or even online if it made it to store shelves. And if there were more seasons, that’s more money made. And I’m sure there are plenty of other fans like myself. Plus whatever show replaces it, I more than likely won’t watch and therefore won’t see any of the commercials that allow you to stay afloat. A good company listens to it’s customers. And happy customers come back for more.
Forever was my favorite new show. Wonderful acting, great production values, interesting plots – a show for grown-ups. I feel terrible that they didn’t renew it.
Great show. Loved the forensics and the history. Great writers. Very Entertaining. Thought the inter-action of characters, especially Henry and Jo and Abe, was captivating. Please bring this show back.
Extremely disappointed to hear they have cancelled this show. I really wonder what they were thinking when they did this. Plenty of viewers and fans and it ended with lots of potential for a new season . I waited all season for Henry to tell her his secret!
