There won’t be a second season for the pals on NBC’s Friends with Benefits. The network has cancelled the sitcom after one season on the air.
Friends with Benefits revolves around a group of young Chicago friends. Their relationships are complicated to say the least as they try to find the perfect match for themselves and their friends. The sitcom stars Ryan Hansen, Danneel Ackles, Jessica Lucas, Zach Cregger, and Andre Holland.
Originally slated for mid-season 2010-11, the premiere was delayed until August 2011. It was pretty clear that the network didn’t see a future for the series as they burned episodes off two at a time during a summer run.
Friends with Benefits debuted on August 5th to a poor 0.7 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 2.34 million total viewers. The numbers got worse as the weeks progressed and hit a low of a 0.5 demo rating with just 1.54 million viewers.
The peacock network had one leftover episode by the time the regular 2011-12 season began and they never got around to airing the last episode. Episode 13, titled “The Benefit of Full Disclosure,” was later made available online via iTunes, Amazon and Netflix. It was the second episode directed by The Wonder Years vet Fred Savage.
To no surprise, NBC has cancelled Friends with Benefits so we’ll never find out if the friends ever found their own “happily ever afters.”
What do you think? Did you enjoy this NBC sitcom? Do you think it would have done better and have been renewed if it had aired during the regular season?
Bring this show back ASAP
Just watched on Netflix – loved it And so bummed it’s not continuing!
so upset, just watched this on Netflix and absolutely loved it. so sad hearing it wont b back 🙁
I really thought ben and Sarah would d8 an be happily ever after
I really enjoy D series I hated that it went off the air in 2011 however I never watched it when it came on primarily because who knows but I watched it on Netflix is awesome hate that I didn’t get season 2
Netflix should pick up this show where it left off because it’s really shame that this show was discontinued by NBC… what a waste that a show like this is off the air, while shows like “toddlers in tiaras” and “hoarders” are still going strong. The cast of “Friends with Benefits” had wonderful, effortless chemistry. They all were distinct characters with different looks, backgrounds, goals that were unique BUT realistic. No, there was no intricate plotline or sic-fi/vampires, but it was a show about fun young people who were getting a grip of their jobs, their relationships, and themselves. The… Read more »
my best friend and i started this show as our best friend show to watch together, only to find out that there is only ONE SEASON WHICH MADE US MAD AND WANT A SECOND SEASON ALONG WITH MANY MORE!
I loved this show. I’m very disappointed there is no season 2.
I thought it was a very funny show. The cast had great chemistry. I’m very disappointed the second season was cancelled.
Let me start off by saying that I was shocked to find out there will not be a second season.
I have to know what happens next??
If is not brought back on air , will it at least be available on Netflix? ?

I loved it,laughed hard, and wanted to see what happened next ********
I was so bummed after finishing the first season on Netflix to find that it had been cancelled! I really hope another network picks it up and continues it (maybe Netflix – it wouldn’t be the first time they saved a cancelled show) so that viewers can watch the happy endings they were waiting for (Ben and Sara -duh. But also, Aaron and Riley). Fingers crossed that a network is smart enough to pick up this awesome show and continue where it left off.
omg…. i am so upset… i recently found this show while browsing through netflix it was suggested after one of my movies… i found it to be a very compelling show, funny is an understatement, and the romance was just so creatively weaved through the script. after finishing the entire series in one day i was upset to find out that the show was cancelled. if only i knew when the showed had aired i definetely would have watched it.
i hope they will rethink making a second season because i would surely be on time to watch it.
awesome show sux to find out its not running
WILL HE BE GF BF WITH SARA !!!!
I saw it on Netflix and I love the show they should make a second season. I think they released it at the wrong time
I watched this show on Netflix and I was very disappointed at the sudden ending not being a true finale. I agree that not following up the episode that included Ben & Riley sleeping together with an explanation made no sense. The show was fun and when I wasn’t watching I wondered what the characters would do next. You have my permission to start season two, just include an episode where Ben & Sara bring up the subject of that night with Riley.
