After two seasons on the air, CBS has pulled the plug on their Wednesday night sitcom, Gary Unmarried. The TV show won’t be back in the fall for season three.
Gary Unmarried revolves around a newly-divorced house-painter and dad, Gary Brooks (Jay Mohr), who’s readjusting to the single life. Others in the cast include Paula Marshall, Ryan Malgarini, Kathryn Newton, Keegan-Michael Key, and Brooke D’Orsay.
The sitcom debuted in September of 2008 to a mediocre 2.3 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 6.84 million viewers. The first season’s 20 episodes ended up averaging a 2.2 in the demo and 7.06 million viewers.
Those numbers put Gary Unmarried on the bubble for renewal. It ultimately escaped cancellation, likely because CBS co-produces the sitcom and decided to keep trying to make the Wednesday night comedy block work.
This season, the show’s ratings didn’t improve, averaging a 2.2 in the demo and 6.8 million viewers.
That wasn’t good enough to earn a renewal this time around and CBS has cancelled the series after 37 episodes. The network has also canned The New Adventures of Old Christine and Accidentally on Purpose.
What do you think? Are you sorry to hear that Gary Unmarried’s been cancelled, that there won’t be a third season?

thats too bad! great show, along with Christine…there’s worst shows that could have been cancelled. CBS, bring back Gary & Christine.
I had no idea they pulled the plug! I looked forward to watching the show. Sad they keep some of the dumbest shows on t.v.
i’m in malaysia, thousands of miles away, and i enjoyed gary unmarried tremendously. so did my husband and my 2 kids. it was a sitcom that the family could enjoy together. i am very disappointed that there will be no season 3. won’t the producers reconsider?? 🙁
Who in there right mind would cancel such an amazingly
funny show as gary unmarried anyone who didn’t like this show
obviously has no sense of humour or one of those cold hearted women
who squeezed the life out of their ex husbands. This show has to
come back it was so hilarious but im sure it will be replaced by
one of those gay f#$@$%^$# reality shows now theres a stupid idea
those shows have to be the most unintelligent brain dead shows
ever. please bring back gary
thank god, it was stupid, predictable, the new adventures of old christine was a lot better, it was more for adults, who watchs this stuff, everyone i speak to disliked gary unmarried, can’t believe he left GW for that
CBS dose it again, cancels a good Tv series just because they ”only” got 6.8 Millions viewers, It’s nothing more then just sad and pathetic, once again it shows this world is all about money. This Sitcom was brilliant, but CBS did not make anough money, so then they cancelled it instead. Arrogant ********!!! Now we never will find out what happend with Sascha and Gary, or Gary & Allison. Really sad. Not first time CBS dose it, and for sure not the last time either. They cancelled so many good shows in the past years just because of there… Read more »
It’s heartbreaking to see great shows taken off the air, all because of some stupid decision based on what the CBS suits deem “insufficient ratings”. A 2.2 share (average 6.8 million viewers) is not exactly paltry; presidents have won elections with less. When networks keep canceling good shows like this, they lose viewers as well. It’s time they started waking up and realizing this.
Please, do not put down the best comedy series ever made,
Gary Unmarried!
A great comedy with great actors.

I am very extremely disappointed that they cancelled gary unmarried, it is such a great funny, light sitcom! I find it upsetting that they took off accidentally on purpose as well that was really funny,,,,such a great cast! I loved Jenna Elfman!
I am just finding out they cancelled the show.. I really loved watching gary unmarried, and new adventures of old christine.. I hate when you get into watching tv shows thwy cancel them..
“Gary, Unmarried” was a classic! The star was so funny and “quick”; it was one of those few shows that a whole family could watch! The show that replaced it is far from entertaining and so predictable….Bleep…My Dad…!
Can we ever rely on great scheduling along the marketing lines? Television is certainly not what it used to be about…..everything is a numbers game…instead of “entertainment” as the pure goal!
Yes I am sorry to no longer see Gary Brooks and his ex go at each other!
My wife and I always had great laughs watching it.
Maybe CBS should have considered another night.
so lame! same with new adventures of old Christine!
OMG…was just talking about this sitcom…hillarious…very upset it will not be coming back…hard to believe it got cancelled…looked forward to every episode…laughed every time…bring “Gary Unmarried” back.
My wife and I are extremely upset that Gary Unmarried was cancelled. This was actually a very funny sitcom. We looked forward to watching it every week. They never pushed it enough. Those who started watching were by word of mouth like us. Too bad. This was a great show! Gonna miss you Gary and Allison!
