After two seasons on the air, CBS has pulled the plug on their Wednesday night sitcom, Gary Unmarried. The TV show won’t be back in the fall for season three.
Gary Unmarried revolves around a newly-divorced house-painter and dad, Gary Brooks (Jay Mohr), who’s readjusting to the single life. Others in the cast include Paula Marshall, Ryan Malgarini, Kathryn Newton, Keegan-Michael Key, and Brooke D’Orsay.
The sitcom debuted in September of 2008 to a mediocre 2.3 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 6.84 million viewers. The first season’s 20 episodes ended up averaging a 2.2 in the demo and 7.06 million viewers.
Those numbers put Gary Unmarried on the bubble for renewal. It ultimately escaped cancellation, likely because CBS co-produces the sitcom and decided to keep trying to make the Wednesday night comedy block work.
This season, the show’s ratings didn’t improve, averaging a 2.2 in the demo and 6.8 million viewers.
That wasn’t good enough to earn a renewal this time around and CBS has cancelled the series after 37 episodes. The network has also canned The New Adventures of Old Christine and Accidentally on Purpose.
What do you think? Are you sorry to hear that Gary Unmarried’s been cancelled, that there won’t be a third season?

I hate CBS canceled the series Gary Unmarried…
Hi all,
I ‘m from Holland and saw this sitcom on 2011 on tv and my partner and i are loving the sitcom. Sadly the sitcom has been canceled! Big mistake of CBS. Most of the people are getting to know the tv series at season 2 ore 3.
So CBS is missing a lot of MONEY by canceling Gary Unmarried. For sample: sitecoms like Friends, Chuck, The Big Bang Theory, Two and a half men got manny viewers at season 3.
It’s all about reputation for viewers to follow the sitecoms!
IT’s Awful to hear that Gary Unmarried season 3 wont air! IT’s A great show ……IF GOD come to grant me 3 wishes I will wish GARY Unmarried season 3, 4 and 5
It’s a great pity, was a good slap-stick funny family show. Clean down to earth real life humour. Anyway, too late now………… 🙁
Its a real shame that they didnt add a season three.. Its a real good show. We just started to watch it and we were waiting for a season 3 to start.
A shame.. 🙁
Has CBS gone crazy? They can’t end a show like this. I love gary unmarried, I wanted to see him and allison get back together. Just make season 3 and the viewers will come. Here in the Netherlands the show is a great hit!
What the hell, i loved the show so much. always made me laugh. come one CBS start it up again. maybe your marketing was at fault.
The show is hilarious.
The show can’t end like that. I’ve recently been showing some people this show and everyone of them have said “how was this show cancelled!?” Such a funny show and yeah, sure, the 2nd season wasn’t as good as the first but it could’ve easily picked up again although i love both seasons. THIS SHOW MUST GO ON!
I have enjoyed both seasons of Gary Unmarried. I found the show to be a reflection of true life and it was tastefully amusing and it was also suitable for most age groups. It is a pity that it was cancelled so suddenly just when the immature Gary learn to take on the responsibility of family life. I hope someone else will continue the effort and a third season will be produced.
Hi i’m from the netherlands ,
I really like the show and i really want to know what happens with gary and allison if he wil go for her it’s so lame they won’t air season 3 it’s the best show ever hope they change ther mind.
the hell i am, i want to find out is gary choice’s his ex-wife or his girlfriend!!
Hey that’s not fair!! A lot of us loved that show. I would’ve loved to eventually see Gary and Allison get back together. CBS is so impatient.
Hi, I’m from the Netherlands. great show, too bad it ended like this
Hi. is very bad that there will not be a third season of gary unmarried, they cant just stop the show ending like that, i hope more people complain so the show start back on 🙂
Best regards Daniel
Best Show ever, Season one was better and without the revamp it couldve gone the long way. CBS should learn that the audience grows with the people who get attached to the characters.
