After two seasons on the air, CBS has pulled the plug on their Wednesday night sitcom, Gary Unmarried. The TV show won’t be back in the fall for season three.
Gary Unmarried revolves around a newly-divorced house-painter and dad, Gary Brooks (Jay Mohr), who’s readjusting to the single life. Others in the cast include Paula Marshall, Ryan Malgarini, Kathryn Newton, Keegan-Michael Key, and Brooke D’Orsay.
The sitcom debuted in September of 2008 to a mediocre 2.3 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 6.84 million viewers. The first season’s 20 episodes ended up averaging a 2.2 in the demo and 7.06 million viewers.
Those numbers put Gary Unmarried on the bubble for renewal. It ultimately escaped cancellation, likely because CBS co-produces the sitcom and decided to keep trying to make the Wednesday night comedy block work.
This season, the show’s ratings didn’t improve, averaging a 2.2 in the demo and 6.8 million viewers.
That wasn’t good enough to earn a renewal this time around and CBS has cancelled the series after 37 episodes. The network has also canned The New Adventures of Old Christine and Accidentally on Purpose.
What do you think? Are you sorry to hear that Gary Unmarried’s been cancelled, that there won’t be a third season?

Are you kidding me? I can’t believe this show has been cancelled. This was one of the best comedies on TV! Yes another reality show is just what we need. We also really liked accidently on purpose. CBS you suck!
done with CBS!!!!!
Yes I am very sad to hear that Gary Unmarried has been cancelled. I thought it was an excellent show for people in their 40’s that are in the same situation and can relate.
They were very funny and talented and I am upset that they can’t leave these great shows on the air and leave such crap on tv that no-one watches
Great cast………..BIG mistake cancelling this show! Writers dropped the ball a bit in season two. The brother was a buffoon, too much time spent on him. Tons of things to write about concerning the split family. Could have run for years with Gary and Ally reuniting in the end with HUGE ratings. What are you going to show, more Big Brother???
I have seen every episode and it was the funniest sitcom on TV. It had no marketing behind it. I am so sorry to see that this has been cancelled.
HIGHLY disappointed! This was a great sitcom! Even the kids could be in the living room while it aired! They cancel good shows like this, and leave completely ridiculous shows ont the air that I refuse to put on my tv in case my children should walk into the room!
This saddens me that they canceled Gary Unmarried, it was hilarious. It just amazes me that all the good shows get canceled and they keep the drown out ones ” two and a half men” going.
I am so upset about this very funny show being canceled!!! Anyone who didn’t find this show entertaining and funny couldn’t have any sense of humor whatsoever.
Please consider bringing it back….I too am sick of reality shows (which in my opinion, have nothing to do with reality)

The season 2 cliff hanger is gonna haunt me forever. I’m gonna miss that show like crazy.
Gary Unmarried was a great sitcom. It was actually a really funny show. The networks today never allow a show to grow and find an audience. Some classic TV shows would never have made it past the first few episodes if they debuted today.
This is the problem! Family shows and comedies are constantly being pulled only to be replaced by fake, ridiculous reality shows!!! Enough with the reality shows! The networks should try polling some actual viewers b/f pulling decent shows. Some others that come to mind… “Yes, Dear” and the completely missed and wonderful, “King of Queens”. That was the ultimate mistake. Far superceded “Raymond” and yet that got repeated accolades… ditch “Survivor” and the other things that only demoralize our society and bring back family t.v. nights!!!
I really thought it was a good show. Everytime i like a good show. They CANCELED IT.
THIS REALLY SUCKS.
No wonder the big three networks are declining when they cancel the best shows, one of the few bright spots of tv comedy.
this mine and my wifes favorite comedy show we are very dissapointed in cbs for cancelling this show.we will be watching another station during this time slot
Am I sorry to hear that the show got cancelled? VERY! It was the only show out there with humor. This news just really bums me out!
