A staple of CBS’ Friday night schedule, ratings for Ghost Whisperer have dropped quite a bit over the season. Last week, the network surprised many viewers by cancelling the TV show after five seasons. The blow was softened when it was learned that the series might get a second chance on ABC. The alphabet network has now apparently passed.
Starring Jennifer Love Hewitt, Ghost Whisperer began in September 2005 and ran for 107 episodes. The series’ regular cast has also included David Conrad, Christoph Sanders, Jamie Kennedy, Camryn Manheim, Aisha Tyler, and Jay Mohr.
Things had been looking positive for the series to continue and some outlets actually had even reported that the show had been picked up. Unfortunately, the deal didn’t work out.
We may never know the details but Ghost Whisperer executive producers Kim Moses and Ian Sander issued a statement that said, “After five wonderful seasons and over 100 episodes, we are disappointed to announce Ghost Whisperer will not be returning for a sixth season. We’ve had an incredible experience and owe a debt of gratitude to everyone involved. We continue our relationship with ABC Studios and look forward to developing many more successful projects together in the future.”
While it looks like Heroes and Law & Order will get some closure, there’s been no word on any plans to go back into production and wrap up Ghost Whisperer.

I was shocked when they cancelled Ghost Whisperer. I just LOVE the show so much. The different characters where all so gifted. The relationship between Jim and Melinda was so beautiful. I only watched a few shows on CBS and since December they have cancelled them all. I see the boss’ wifes show the terrible “Big Brother” is still on. There is something wrong with that. I think CBS needs to make some major changes within. GoodBye, CBS!!!!!
Okay CBS I am shocked that you would cancel a show that can be watched by many generations together. Have the ratings really fallen or has DVR been created abling viewers to watch it on a better evening not even having to push record. Friday nights is a hard night to bring up the ratings as it is but now that we have DVR we can watch it at a more convenient time. I am sure many people did the same as us. I went to the CBS Network and left a complaint on their comments page. I suggest everyone do the same. Go to the source. I am now going to ABC and doing the same.
I cannot believe that they would cancel such a popular show. This show can be watched by old and young alike. It has hope for people regarding the afterlife. I am sick to death of watching the sex and the homosexuals. These shows they keep! Do not get me wrong I am not against them but I do not want to watch TV all the time about them. I am so sad that they decided to cancel Ghost Whisperer. I only had 2 shows that I watched religiously and now one of them is gone. It seems that todays TV is all about reality shows. I am not interested in reality shows and I never will.
