With two weeks to go before the network upfronts, we have some long-awaited and sad news regarding the fate of CW’s Gilmore Girls.
The CW has released a joint statement from the network and Warner Bros. Television that says “Announcing the final season of Gilmore Girls is truly a sad moment for everyone at The CW and Warner Bros. Television. This series helped define a network and created a fantastic, storybook world featuring some of television’s most memorable, lovable characters. We thank Amy Sherman-Palladino, Dan Palladino, Dave Rosenthal, the amazing cast led by Lauren Graham and Alexis Bledel as well as the producers, writers and crew for giving us this delightful gem for the past seven years. We would also like to thank the critics and Gilmore fans for their passionate support and promise to give this series the send off it deserves.”
Rumors have gone back and forth for months on whether an agreement could be reached with key cast members so that Gilmore Girls could return for another season. There was even a rumor earlier today that negotiations had stalled and it looked unlikely that they would resume. It appears that rumor was true.
Once sure that the series was not returning, CW likely wanted to announce the news immediately so that viewers would be more likely to tune in to watch the final two episodes.
Will the series finale on May 15th be a fulfilling way to close the series? Does this ensure that CW’s Veronica Mars will be renewed? Stay tuned!
i used to watch the wb (now the cw) every night..back when dawsons creek and those shows were on..now all those are gone and they are ending 7th heaven and gilmore girls..what happened to related? i really liked that show and its gone too. now your taking away gilmore girls? after one tree hill goes more than likely i wont be watching the cw anymore. they have taken away all the good shows and now there is only one left..how long will that one last?
it had to happen, the show was getting worse season by season. the first seasons with rory in high school and perhaps her first year in college were good, but after that the show just started to decline. the relationship loops became tiresome and what was cute and quirky quickly became demented and annoying. the characters just became unlikable. sadly its reached the point of being unsalvagable. best to cut their losses and waste no more time.
I am EXTREMELY unhappy about GILMORE GIRLS ending! The CW is just going downhill in my opinion. New shows of Reba disappeared. The CW had a problem broadcasting and I guess during the time I couldn’t see it they decided to cancel Reba. And now GILMORE GIRLS! Why couldn’t they see the light and just come up with the “bucks” for one more year so that the show could be ended properly? I suppose the final hour show will be crammed with bits and pieces and a lot of loose ends. That’s no way for a GREAT show to end!!!
GEEZE i’m soooo mad there is sooo much left to say about gilmore girls this show is the bestest in the westest..god i cannot even put words into how mad i am
I CAN’T BELIEVE THIS! I AM SO TICKED OFF!! THIS IS MY FAOVRITE SHOW, EVER!!!!!! THE CW AND WARNER BROTHERS REALLY KNOW HOW TO MAKE PPL MAD!
Boy, the writers had us fooled! For seven years they’ve been building us up for the wedding of Luke and Lorelai…and now we’re not going to see it? What is THAT all about?
Gilmore girls has been one of my favorite shows. I have watched that show with my dughter since she was 12 she is now 18 and we occasionaly watch it together. I can’t believe they are taking off such a good mother daughter show. I only have one more show that I like on the cw and That is one tree hill . Once that goes off the air I will have no need to watch the cw.
Tonite was supposed to be the second to the last episode. I know there was a fire going on in griffin park but I think fans deserve better does anyone know how to watch tonites episode>
I watch this show it is life, my Tuesday, I watch reruns too!! Gilmore girls are one of the best shows ever!! If you take it away because American idol is on at the same time and America is watching that!! To bad… don’t please don’t take it away one more season you need to give its true whole hearted fans a good one last go bye before you let us say good bye!!! Don’t do this!!!!
Losing my weekly visit to Stars Hollow is very disappointing. When agreements with Amy Sherman-Palladino could not be reached, things started going downhill. The bouncing around this past season has been disappointing, but what saddens me the most is knowing that the ending we will see will not be the one that Amy Sherman-Palladino has had in her head all along. If I remember what I read awhile back, she knew exactly how it would end. Now, I have to see an alternate reality and give up my favorite show. Losing Gilmore Girls is one more line to add on… Read more »
Absolutely crazy. The best show this network has is being canceled, whoever dreamed this up should be fired.
