Sad news for Grimm fans. Deadline reports the NBC series will end after its upcoming sixth season.
The drama follows homicide detective Nick Burkhardt (David Giuntoli), who is charged with protecting humans from supernatural creatures. The cast also includes Russell Hornsby, Silas Weir Mitchell, Reggie Lee, Sasha Roiz, Bree Turner, and Claire Coffee.
Rumors that this would be Grimm’s final season have circulated since NBC only ordered 13 episodes for season six and Giuntoli said it could be the last season. Ratings for the series have never been particularly high. Season five received an average of only .89 in the 18-49 demo and 3.943 million viewers.
Season six of Grimm is slated to premiere on January 6th at 8 p.m. ET/PT.
From NBC:
“GRIMM”: The final season begins Friday, Jan. 6, 8-9 p.m.
Closing out an incredibly successful series run and giving viewers a chance to say goodbye over the last 13 episodes, the sixth and final season of NBC’s drama “Grimm” will begin its last chapter with the battle fans have long been waiting for — Nick versus Capt. Renard.
The series, which reached the 100-episode milestone last season, has long been a fan and critical favorite, with the Los Angeles Times calling it “terrific and trendsetting… ‘Grimm’ has become a beacon of solid narrative and a weekly reminder of why monsters matter.” The New York Times said “Grimm” is “engaging, clever, tense, funny and well-paced, featuring a remarkably appealing cast.”
As for events leading into the final season, the nefarious forces of Black Claw have been silenced and Nick (David Giuntoli) faces an all too familiar foe in Capt. Sean Renard (Sasha Roiz). Now in the seat of power as the mayor elect of Portland, Renard is poised to bring rise to his own brand of law and order. Nick must take a stand to protect his city and those closest to him, especially his child with Adalind (Claire Coffee). It will take the full force of Nick and his allies to find a way to bring the peace.
Meanwhile, Monroe (Silas Weir Mitchell) and Rosalee (Bree Turner) grapple with bringing a child into a new and tumultuous world, and Eve (Bitsie Tulloch) faces unsettling identity issues as her former self lurks below the surface.
“Grimm” also stars Russell Hornsby and Reggie Lee.
The series was created by David Greenwalt & Jim Kouf and Stephen Carpenter. Sean Hayes and Todd Milliner (“Hollywood Game Night,” ”Hot in Cleveland”) serve as executive producers along with Greenwalt and Kouf. “Grimm” is a Universal Television and Hazy Mills production.
What do you think? Are you a fan of Grimm? Are you sad the series is ending?
I DON’T USUALLY GET TO WATCH GRIMM WHEN IT AIRS, BUT ALWAYS PULL IT UP ON MY NBC APP AND WATCH IT. I HATE IT WHEN YOU REALLY FIND A SHOW YOU LIKE AND IT GETS CANCELLED!
This is the ONLY show that I watch on NBC and now they are cancelling it! This show has such a great cast and even though it’s fiction, it’s riveting to watch and keeps you on the end of your seat. Seems like all the tv stations care about is putting on shows that involve sex or reality programs and I for one am sick of both. We need more fantasy shows like Grimm on the lineup, shows that bring you back to watch each week. This is such a shame, people like these kind of shows…they keep you interested!… Read more »
I love Grimm. L look forward to see it every Friday night. So sorry to see it go.
I am absolutely shocked that they have decided to cancel Grimm, WOW!! Please continue the series, it’s one of the best shows on air today, it would be a tragedy to see it go. My whole family loves this show and we look forward to seeing it every Friday evening. It’s unbelievable that a show that is in a difficult time slot is still doing very well and yet it is being cancelled. We will personally boycott NBC if they do not bring back or continue Grimm episodes, it’s the best show that NBC has now!
My family and I love the Grimm. All the stories and the actors have been very entertaining. I just think there is so much more to tell. We are going to miss it terribly and wish it wasn’t going off the air. We haven’t seen any new shows yet that will be taking the Grimm shows place on Friday night’s for us. This us just so sad. We wish all the actors the best and hope to see them again on both movies and tv. Thank you for all the years of entertainment. Goodbye. Best wishes. The Budd Family.

GRIMM IS THE ONE AND ONLY THING I LOOK FORWARD TO ON TV ON FRIDAY NIGHT …
REALLY HAVE ENJOYED THE SERIES.
BEST TO EVERYONE INVOLVED…
Grim is very entertaining. It is a keeper. Tired of reality and all that swearing and explicit sex shows. Get rid of them.
This really is a bad decision.. Why would they cancel Grimm ? I really hope that NBC looses more of Friday night Television viewers the only thing you have to offer is Emerald City, and I wasn’t even aware that it was on! GOODBYE NBC! You suck!
One can only hope that Grimm gets picked up by another network. I don’t know how I’m going to treat my withdrawal symptoms. Save , save , this great series….
Please bring Grimm back, If not, I will no longer need to watch NBC. I LOVE LOVE LOVE this show. I want more Grimm.
