TNT has pulled the plug on their medical drama, HawthoRNe. The Jada Pinkett Smith TV series has been cancelled after three seasons on the air.
The cancellation news comes following the end of the third season a couple weeks ago. Despite having a strong start in its freshman year, HawthoRNe’s ratings have declined over the past two seasons.
Year three ended up averaging a 0.7 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 2.51 million viewers, a loss of 22% and 19% when compared to season two. Year two had averaged a 0.9 in the demo and 3.09 million, a decline of 18% and 9% from season one.
When compared to TNT’s other summer shows, season three HawthoRNe had one of the cable channel’s smallest audiences. Only already-cancelled Men of a Certain Age had worse numbers.
In a statement, TNT said, “TNT has decided not to order a fourth season of Hawthorne. TNT truly appreciates the tremendous dedication of everyone involved in Hawthorne. The series gave TNT the opportunity to work with many outstanding people, including Jada Pinkett Smith and the rest of the show’s talented cast, crew, producers and writers. We wish everyone involved with Hawthorne nothing but the best.”
What do you think? Are you sorry that HawthoRNe has been cancelled? Why do you think people stopped watching? What would you liked to have seen happen in season four?

One knows you cant go on and on with a show but this has ended abruptly. Solve the murder and then give the ending it deserves. Thank you. PS.. I like this show whatever the rating is……
This was one of the shows I actually anticipated watching and my husband would actually watch it with me which he never likes what I like. This just sucks . and then I find out another show I loved on ABC was cancelled after 1 season what is wrong with these people?
i loved tuesdays but now i jus get up set because this got cancel to wht r they doinggg
I was not unhappy it was cancelled, it turned into a soap opera and not a show about a nurse
This was one of the best shows I have seen on tv in a long time. A nice clean show to sit and watch with your family and it has to get taken off the air. Maybe thats why it wasnt popular with some people, because there wasnt any naked women running the screen. Whats wrong with there only being a couple thousand people watching a show anyway?? This seems to happen alot with shows that are really good and the problem is they get ended right at a good spot and a person waits patiently for the next season… Read more »
This sucks, I just realized that it was cancelled…..Is TNT CRAZY!!! That was my favorite show, first they didn’t promote it, second you didn’t know what time it came on. and third they didn’t do repeats like they usually do…. PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE someone please pick this up!!!!
I personally loved the hit tv series Hawthorne. It’s a shame at all good shows are removed/cancelled. It felt good to see a strong black woman run things. I too believe this show would get a lot more ratings on CBS, NBC, CW etc. not everyone has cable or can keep up with all the good shows that are showed on cable tv. I strongly encourage that a season 4 comes out whether it’s on TNT or a standard viewing channel. Just wondering how TNT is still airing shows like NCIS, Law & Order etc but not a show that… Read more »
That’s just like TNT….cancel some of the best shows!! Like The Closer.
Hey that’s why we have FX channel….Justified, Sons of Anarchy, etc…
It was my favorite show, I really miss it!It needs to come back, on a different channel maybe!!!
Hawthorne was a great show. The last season was just starting to heat up. I agree with the earlier posts that stated the more quality shows are the ones that are cancelled. If not TNT shop it somewhere else – it’s worth it.
This was one of the best shows out there. The casting, acting and content were well done. Instead of cancelling, TNT should have taken a better look at the time slot and how the show was being marketed. Many people were not aware of the show, realized it to late, or were unable to watch because they do not have cable. Consideration should be given to bringing it back, just as “The Game” was and maybe on a non-cable network . There is a bigger audience out there than the television execs realize. Bad decision on the part TNT.
I am very disappointed. Hawthrone was a great show with action, drama, for the whole family. It was along the lines of ER, Quincy, and House but with a woman in the main character role. The acting was incredible for each and everyone involve in the show. I don’t know what I will watch now to replace it. It definitely can not be replace but I do know changing the day may have cause people to lose sight of when the show was on and that it even continued. Bad decision to cancel the show. It is always the quality… Read more »
I THINK THAT STINKS THIS SHOW WAS ONE OF THE BEST SHOWS I SEEN IN A WHILE , ITS SAD THEY TAKE GOOD SHOWS OFF AN LEAVE CRAP ON TV DISAPOINTED IN MIDLAND ,…
I really liked this series. I think the problem is having it on a cable channel. Not too many people watch cable shows during the week. I mean that’s my opinion. I really wish you would bring it back along with Men of a certain Age. I love these 2 series!
I can’t believe they are cancelling this show! They are cancelling all the good show and replacing them with some really stupid shows. Hawthorne was a great show and the not to have a final show just leave you hanging is really lame. TV is really becoming a disappointment.
