TNT has pulled the plug on their medical drama, HawthoRNe. The Jada Pinkett Smith TV series has been cancelled after three seasons on the air.
The cancellation news comes following the end of the third season a couple weeks ago. Despite having a strong start in its freshman year, HawthoRNe’s ratings have declined over the past two seasons.
Year three ended up averaging a 0.7 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 2.51 million viewers, a loss of 22% and 19% when compared to season two. Year two had averaged a 0.9 in the demo and 3.09 million, a decline of 18% and 9% from season one.
When compared to TNT’s other summer shows, season three HawthoRNe had one of the cable channel’s smallest audiences. Only already-cancelled Men of a Certain Age had worse numbers.
In a statement, TNT said, “TNT has decided not to order a fourth season of Hawthorne. TNT truly appreciates the tremendous dedication of everyone involved in Hawthorne. The series gave TNT the opportunity to work with many outstanding people, including Jada Pinkett Smith and the rest of the show’s talented cast, crew, producers and writers. We wish everyone involved with Hawthorne nothing but the best.”
What do you think? Are you sorry that HawthoRNe has been cancelled? Why do you think people stopped watching? What would you liked to have seen happen in season four?

I LIKED HAWTHORNE! A LOT! I was sshocked it was cancelled. I liked all the characters – Nick gave it a little spice – but especially compared to all this other junk on tv – so called “reality” get real for real! This was a program that was cancelled because they dared to proclaim a belief in God – that’s all this cancellation was about, we all know it.
I agree with Douglas, I was very disappointed when they had Christine cheating on her new husband within what seemed like weeks. The writers changed the show radically and Christine became almost another person. Even so, I still watched the show because Jada Pinkett Smith is a fantastic actress! I would love to see this show come back, but with the original passion for patients in the hospital.
NOOOOOOO!! this is my favorite show, bring it back 🙂
YA’LL SUCK, HOW CAN YA’LL TAKE THIS SHOW OFF. YA’LL ARE CRAZY.
I really enjoyed Hawthorne. I will admit that they concentrated more on their personal lives than the hospital, but that would not be any different than lets say Greys Anatomy. I think if they had this show on during the fall/winter seasons the ratings would be much better. I have viewed some of lineups for the fall season and its all a bunch of CRAP! I too am disappointed with TNT.
I really enjoyed the show and really liked the 3rd season, although some did not. I was hoping that they would at least give us a happy ending with season 4. It wouldn’t be so bad to at least give the fans 2 or 3 episodes to wrap all the loose ends up and have Christina and Tom get back together and see Bobbie and Steve get married. It is a shame that TNT didn’t care enough for the fans to at least do that or give us a two hour movie, something…. The problem, i think was that it… Read more »
Hawthorne was my favorite show. As a viewer I feel cheated by TNT because before you cancel a primetime show you should consult with the writers and combine your views and the views of the public to see if you can make it better. If it wasn’t for Rizzoli & Iles I would stop watching TNT for good.
I am sick that they are cancelling the show.
I watched Hawthorne online every chance I can. So now what, something
stupid-Vampires in heat? Teenagers acting out their anger? Or something about the
men of what? TNT I am very disappointed in your selection of shows you
produce according to who’s watching. What demographic polls are you taking?
I am sooo mad and upset that Hawthorne has been cancelled after three seasons. I couldn’t wait to get home from work or school t see it ans if I missed it I was upset because 9I had to stay up till 12 to see it again. I think that TNT is making a big mistake by cancelling Hawthorne. I will truly miss Hawthorne and hope that it will be picked up by another television station
I am disappointed the show was cancelled. I really enjoyed watching Hawthorne. Never missed an episode, thanks to DVR. This season wasnt as good as previous seasons but I was hoping the show would get back on track during the new season. Maybe another network will pick the show up.
I’m very disappointed about the shows cancellation, however there should have b een more about the drama of the hospital and not so much about her and marc anthony.i am curious to know who shot him, but this season took away of christina helping her patient and fighting for their rights and not following policy and procedures.
I am so dissapointed!!!! OMG!!!!! Hawthorne was on of my favorite shows! I watched every episode and was waiting anxiously for the next season. Is there anything we can do about it? Can we write or call someone? Maybe another network will pick it up….
Absolutely hated the 3rd season. The show had worked so hard to get Tom and Christina together and then WHAM! Don’t know if anyone else felt let down, but I did.
Turned into a real soap opera.
Seaon three was terrible Hawthorne displayed no morale values at all. Obviously , writing season three the way they did was real dissapointing to the viewing audience. I believe that one scene with Marc Anthony is what killed the show. Jada Pickett Smith is a very good actor but she strayed to far away from the reality of the show, saving lives at James River. I am sure if she was allowed to she could regained her footing in season 4 where the rating are concerned.
I agree! This was not the best season but otherwise a great drama. Everything was so unreal. Like a soap opera!!! I would watch if there was another season.
I liked the 3rd season but I agree that if they were given the chance they could get things back on track and regain viewers. I think they tried anything they thought would bring in the viewers, but it did lose some of the moral direction it had, but it is not like there haven’t been shows that had some seasons that were trash but were allowed to get their footing and start over….
This show got hokier and hokier; way too much bogus religiosity. I am relieved that TNT made this decision for me, although I had already deleted it from by DRV as an ongoing recording. Whew.
