TNT has pulled the plug on their medical drama, HawthoRNe. The Jada Pinkett Smith TV series has been cancelled after three seasons on the air.
The cancellation news comes following the end of the third season a couple weeks ago. Despite having a strong start in its freshman year, HawthoRNe’s ratings have declined over the past two seasons.
Year three ended up averaging a 0.7 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 2.51 million viewers, a loss of 22% and 19% when compared to season two. Year two had averaged a 0.9 in the demo and 3.09 million, a decline of 18% and 9% from season one.
When compared to TNT’s other summer shows, season three HawthoRNe had one of the cable channel’s smallest audiences. Only already-cancelled Men of a Certain Age had worse numbers.
In a statement, TNT said, “TNT has decided not to order a fourth season of Hawthorne. TNT truly appreciates the tremendous dedication of everyone involved in Hawthorne. The series gave TNT the opportunity to work with many outstanding people, including Jada Pinkett Smith and the rest of the show’s talented cast, crew, producers and writers. We wish everyone involved with Hawthorne nothing but the best.”
What do you think? Are you sorry that HawthoRNe has been cancelled? Why do you think people stopped watching? What would you liked to have seen happen in season four?

I am so disappointed. I really loved HawthoRNe. I agree with the previous comments, we need closure and maybe TNT needs to look at time change. PLEASE BRING IT BACK.
I started watching this year because my friend told me it was the best show. I got the discs from Netflix and have been watching them with my daughter. We LOVE, LOVE, LOVE the show. I hope another network…FX picks them up so TNT loses ratings.
Please bring Hawthorne back even if it’s on a different show…love Tom and Christina and the rest of the cast!!! Please, Please, Please bring this show back…look forward to watching each and every episode!!!
Hawthorne is a great show and the show needs to come back…please bring this show back so all of us fans who love Tom and Christina can enjoy them and the rest of the cast!!!! Please, Please, Please bring this awesome show back!!! I love this show and look forward to each and every season.
i think it,s sad it was and is good show well what can you do?
I agree with all of the above. The lower viewership may have been due to less advertising this year. The time change also had a negative impact as does the limited number of shows – only a dozen or so? outrageous for such a great show. Each season just as we were really getting addicted the season ended!! At the very least (as mentioned above) give us a Two – hour finale to bring closure to the cliff hanger you’ve left us hanging with!! I try not to engage in gossip, but terrible timing for the network given the adverse… Read more »
Big mistake…. Big mistake TNT. This was one of the best shows ever. You all should have never canceled Hawthorne…
I dvr, every episode im so upset!
I am very sad to see the show cancelled. The third season was the first season I watched and I thought it was really good. Bummer!!!!! The ending was left with Marc Anthony shot. Who did it? Please bring it back, maybe on another network. Jada Pinket-Smith is an outstanding actress:)
I think it suxs that Hawthorne was cancelled, i feel it one of the more clean, exciting shows on T.V. , there are only a few medical shows on as is. I think they should change there minds.
I can’t believe it. This was interesting, informative, and dramatic. The cast worked well together. I need closure. What was Hawthorne planning for the rest of her life? Did she want to try marriage again? And with who? What was the man gonna do after rehab? What about her daughter? Please bring it back? Move the show to another channel( TV-One, A&E, USA)
I really liked the show and am sadden that it will not return.
However, I think that time change for last seasons show may have had something to do with viewers not watching. 8:00 pm was a much better time than 9:oo pm.
Please bring Hawthorne back. It was awesome!
We need closure have one more and wrap things up in a special may be a 2hr movie?
I agree Linda, a 2 hr. movie would be great for those of us that folloed the show. It would bring some closure rather than leaving us hangin.
I don’t watch a lot of TV, but I sure enjoyed Hawthorne. So good to have some quality summer shows. I’m shocked they would end the series without any warning— and with no answer to who had attacked Christine . I thought the innuendo all along was that Nick was the culprit. And I kept waiting for him to be exposed.
