A little over a week ago, NBC decided to cancel their new medical drama, Heartbeat. As a result of the cancellation, tonight’s episode is the TV show’s last. Was NBC justified in cancelling the series or should there be season two?
Set at the fictional St. Matthew’s Hospital, Heartbeat follows a cardio-thoracic surgeon, Dr. Alex Panttiere (Melissa George), as she tries to juggle her personal and professional lives. She eagerly fights authority, particularly when it comes to her patients’ health and well-being. The rest of the cast includes Dave Annable, Don Hany, Joshua Leonard, Jamie Kennedy, D.L. Hughley, Shelley Conn, Maya Erskine, and J. Louis Mills.
Heartbeat debuted on March 22nd. It followed an episode of NBC’s highly-rated series The Voice and drew a 1.39 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 6.30 million viewers.
Heartbeat moved to its regular Wednesday night timeslot the next evening and the ratings saw a dramatic dip, falling to a 0.89 rating with 5.16 million. The numbers have kept dwindling downward. Last week’s penultimate episode drew a 0.67 in the demo with just 3.86 million.
Those kinds of numbers are just too low for NBC to justify renewing the series so the cancellation certainly wasn’t a surprise. The peacock network is already busy promoting their new drama series for the fall. It remains to be seen if they will do any better.
But, what do you think? Did you like the Heartbeat TV show? Was NBC justified in cancelling it or should the network have given the series more time and a second season?
Bring it backkkkk!!!!
I loved the show shouldn’t have cancelled I rate it 100% didn’t miss an episode
I am extremely disappointed in NBC. Whoever is in charge of these choices, in my opinion needs replaced. It seems to be a pattern with NBC; as well as doing away with Channel 8 WGAL for Direct TV customers. Heartbeat is a wonderful show and should definitely be back on. Hopefully it will be picked up by another network. When NBC looses enough customers, maybe they will open their eyes and realize that viewers DO MATTER!
I can’t believe this show was cancelled!! I was so intrigued from the first episode. They definitely made a mistake. We need more of Heartbeat. Great story line, interesting cases, brilliant cast. Why would they start something great like this and then just cancel before giving it a time to shine? Really disappointing.
NBC is Famous for this type of choice, within the last few years. Sad.
I’ve notice lately that whatever show is cancelled it has to do with women the strong out spoken type
Yes you should have given it a chance & maybe left it on the original channel and night that it first aired it might’ve had a very good chance of doing good. I know I loved the show it was my favorite.
Bring it back. It was the best yet. Why get a great show then cancel. I really enjoyed Heartbest and I didn’t miss an episode. It really was the best show in a very long time.
NBC has canceled other good shows in the past.I loved that show,I hope another network takes it on.The show has a little of everything.Ive been waiting for it to come back on and found out just today that it has been cancel.
It was a great show! The problem is the networks what ratings so bad they won’t even give a show a chance. With there being so
Many medical shows they should have given them another season to get there loyal viewers. It just really sucks when all these new shows come out and the networks are only about the ratings right away and you get one season and then they’re gone.
After reading the fans comments, myself included it seems that shows with strong female characters… need I go on? Let’s study for example, “Buffy the Vampire Slayer.” This show has been studied for it’s unexpected popularity and loyal fans. Buffy became a cult like classic still running in syndication. I have made my case for a hugely underserved demographic of strong intelligent women. The fans/ audience of Buffy include men, that’s right, men! Secure confident men, comfortable in their own skin. Sure of their identities, they remain fans of “Buddy the Vampire Slayer.” What does this have to do with… Read more »
Absolutely! I know the established medical shows. This show has a unique storyline based on the 1st woman to become a a cardio-thoracic surgeon! The cast is oozing with chemistry. A new show of this quality deserves more promotion. Put it on in place of a prime time show sandwiched so that the target audience would be exposed. I’m a nurse and have, still do, watch intelligent medical field dramas. The personal and professional storylines are intriguing, INCLUSIVE of diverse audiences. If networks insist on forcing insulting reality shows, then go to HBO, Cinemax or another venue where I can… Read more »
Yes! Wayyyy to early! I loved that show. I’ve been waiting to see what the heck was gonna come of her marrying the two loves of her life while in Vegas!! Thanks for nothing. I Am totally disappointed this show has been cancelled. It became one of my top 3 shows. Please reconsider keeping it alive. As far as I’m concerned you can’t have too many medical shows. It definitely came with a twist of its own and best of all it was based on a real life doctor. A woman with skills in cardiology not shared by any other… Read more »
I definitely think “Heartbeat” was taken off way too soon. The show was soooo good! I loved all of the characters! I was so looking forward to the next season (2). Maybe NBC will reconsider. I certainly hope so…Please, Please!!!
Disappointed it was cancelled, I really loved it. I hope another network surprises us and picks it up.
Please let it air, it’s a great show!!
