One of the shocks of the recent cancellations was that CBS’ drama Jericho was let go after one season. The Skeet Ulrich series did well in the ratings initially but, like Lost, took an extended hiatus during the winter months. When it returned earlier this year, many of the show’s casual viewers didn’t.
The series finished its freshman year on May 9th with a number of storylines unresolved, so fans were understandably upset to learn the series wouldn’t be returning. They’ve been very vocal about it and apparently, CBS has heard them loud and clear. CBS recently announced the following statement on the Jericho messageboard:
To the fans of Jericho:
We have read your emails over the past few days and have been touched by the depth and passion with which you have expressed your disappointment. Please know that canceling a television series is a very difficult decision. Hundreds of people at the Network, the production company and the incredibly-talented creative team worked very hard to build and serve the community for this show — both on-air and online. It is a show we loved too.
Thank you for supporting Jericho with such passion. We truly appreciate the commitment you made to the series and we are humbled by your disappointment. In the coming weeks, we hope to develop a way to provide closure to the compelling drama that was the Jericho story.
Sincerely,
Nina Tassler, President of CBS Entertainment
Score one for the fans but, it’s unclear what Tassler means by “developing closure.” A full second season or just a handful of episodes? A two-hour movie or webisodes? A novel or a short story synopsis?
It’s hard to say at this point but, its doubtful that the most devout of fans are going to be satisfied with anything less than a sophomore year. That could prove rather expensive and difficult for the network to provide since they officially cancelled the series. The cast was likely released from their contracts and would have to be renegotiated.
Will we see the residents of Jericho again? This story’s just getting interesting so, stay tuned!

SAVE JERICHO!!! We will accept help from were ever it comes from. NUTS!!
Has anyone thought of an online petition to remind CBS that there still is a large fan community for Jericho. If there is one. Where do I sign?
I’m still going to collect NUTS to send to NY, to show my very much devoted support to Jericho. So look out for the NUTS there headed your way.
Sincerely,
Not to happy
Its going to be very difficult for CBS to withstand the Global Information Age. The question is not whether Jericho WILL be back, but WHEN. We understand that their tolerance level will be very high considering that they are a Multinational Corporation. Yet, what they failed to research is that Jericho fans will NEVER stop fighting for their show. Bring back Jericho!!!!!!! Or NUTS!
We want a 48 episode committment from CBS!!!
Nuts!!!!
We will not stop fighting until CBS gives us a second season of JERICHO.
PLAIN AND SIMPLE……
RIP Johnston Green
We will win this one for you!
I remember the story of a series that was almost cancelled after it’s rookie season. I Love Lucy. It’s time the networks let the shows develop (without counting every penney weekly).
If you want to follow up on this story…send someone to the CBS studios in NYC and ask anyone there if they have any NUTS. We’ve been sending them for days! These Jericho fans Rock! We want at least one more season….PLEASE.
Thank you for telling our story.Every bit of publicity we can get will help the fight.
Save Jericho!!
Thanks for running the story. We are continuing to fight it out. We won’t give up until we have a 2nd season. Jericho was the only show that many of us watched every week. We won’t lose our date night! 🙂
CBS needs to do right by this showing after fumbling it’s management with the hiatus – and if CBS is listening….I’ll be satisfied with NOTHING less than a 2nd season, so let’s not waste time with those other options – Thanks!!
the contracts are up on june 15th, so fans are trying hard now to get the show back. the battle must be won now. anything less than a full season (or two) is not acceptable !
NUTS !
We will not be satisfied with a TV movie or a series finale. We want a second season. The show deserves a chance to prove itself when it’s not pitted against the most popular show on television! Thank you so much for spreading the word!
Thank you for covering our story. We’ll never give up on a Jericho second season. The fan base is an interesting, passionate cross section. They appear to have staying power.
