Earlier this week, we reported ABC has cancelled Of Kings and Prophets after two episodes. Now, some of the series’ producers have reacted to the biblical drama’s swift cancellation.
Of Kings and Prophets starred Ray Winstone, Olly Rix, and Simone Kessell in stories based on the Biblical Books of Samuel.
On their Facebook page, producers Reza Aslan and Mahyad Tousi expressed disappointment with ABC’s decision but sounded hopeful about the series getting picked up somewhere else:
We feel confident that ABC Studios will find a new home for our show so that the millions of you who have tuned in to see it will get an opportunity to see the rest of this tale, and that millions more will have the opportunity to see it.”
As of now, ABC is not airing the drama’s remaining eight episodes.

What do you think? Did you watch Of Kings and Prophets? Do you think it should’ve been cancelled? Do you think another network should pick up the series?
My husband and I thought the show was great. We had no idea it was cancelled and was looking forward to the next to air. I thought this show had amazing potential to draw an audience. There were just some political things that captured a lot of people’s attention. I hope Netflix picks it up or have it air on On-demand at least.
I knew it was too good to be true, finally a show on tv that actually had meaning or made sense. Now a days television is filled with a whole bunch of reality shows or shows that shouldn’t be aired at all. Therefore it’s no surprise that a great show that makes sense with a great story line wouldn’t last or get enough viewers. The marketing on that show was horrible!!! Barely anyone knew or even heard of it! The time slot that show was given to air was not a great time. Overall the two episode that I was… Read more »
My husband and i loved the show..not sure why with all the absurdly mindless reality on TV, this thought provoking show would be cancelled, deemed inappropriate, when we have transvestite and gay scenarios on every other series. Kinda makes you scratch your head….BRING IT BACK!!!
I was really looking forward to this series and am extremely disappointed at ABCs decision. I think the network should’ve given it a better premiere date and in light of everything should have given it longer to take off and be successful. I would be a faithful watcher of this show if it would continue to air, although I would prefer the censored more appropriate version over the uncensored version.
This is a good serial its just too bad if not continued
Yes, I absolutely think they should, at the very least, allow the rest of the season to be aired. If nothing else, allow it to be seen On Demand, where they’ve left the last episode (Season 1, Episode 2 “Let the Wicked Be Ashamed”).

I was already hooked since episode 1, what a shame to see it cancelled , wish to see more.
I’m very dissapointment for cancelled the series is a good series and history too I believe see in other network.
I am very disappointed that ABC cancelled the tv before it got a real chance… I watch the 2 episodes aired and I enjoyed them alot….
I’m puzzled as to why ABC would cancel the show after airing only 2 episode . Doesn’t seem like they gave the series any chance to build it’s audience especially since like most people we tuned in to see the presidential debate airing the same time. I recorded the episode and watch afterwards but most people don’t have the same capabilities on their cable/satellite TV package. I hope we can at least see the end of the season and I’m sure that it’s audience would increase and be captivated by the story.
I can’t believe ABC pulled Of Kings and Prophets after only 2 episodes!!! Most people probably had not realized it was on before it was off!!! I truly hope and pray that another network will pick up this wonderful new show. I am very saddened by ABC’s decision. I really do not think that only 2 episodes is enough to make such a snap decision. I usually do not watch “regular” network tv, ABC, NBC, FOX, etc. (I have to say I do really enjoy CBS’ Criminal Minds (my current favorite) and Criminal Minds: Beyond Borders with Gary Sinise, however.)… Read more »
Unknown to ABC, this show had the potential to be the “Show of the times”. In my view this series depicted biblical events in a unique way with a brilliant approach to touch and captivate a wide audience. A combination of factors such as wrong day wrong time, lack of advertising and promotion and finally, terrible judgment contributed to the shows demise. Viewers have a voice “but” with increased competition from other networks executives need to rethink their decision. Based on the overwhelming online responses to the cancellation, most viewers chose not to view it during the election coverage, but… Read more »
Terrible decision to cancel. This show is great.
I’m very disappointed the show (OPK) was CANCELED!!!!!! No my opinion we need more Biblical Stories told. Television portrays the Other Side 24/7. Some don’t know there’s another side to Life. What’s wrong in showing It even if You’re not getting it 100/% Right Yourself. I like to know where and when the Remaining 8 Shows will be TELEVISED????
