Sometimes the truth hurts — especially when it comes to television ratings. After three seasons, FOX has cancelled Lie to Me.
Starring Tim Roth, Lie to Me revolves around Cal Lightman and members of The Lightman Group. They’re a team of specialists who help law enforcement agencies uncover the truth by using applied psychology. Others in the cast include Kelli Williams, Brendan Hines, Monica Raymund, Hayley McFarland, and Mekhi Phifer.
Last season, Lie to Me averaged a 2.9 rating in the all-important 18-49 demographic and 8.03 million total viewers. That was down from season one and the series found itself on the bubble for renewal. FOX ended up giving the TV series another chance and renewed it for 13 episodes.
Unfortunately, season three didn’t perform nearly as well as season two. It premiered last October to a 2.1 rating in the demo and 5.86 million. Viewership eroded in subsequent weeks and FOX declined to give the show a full season order. Lie to Me then hit a new series low in January, registering a meager 1.5 rating and 5.43 million viewers.

In its final weeks on the air, viewers seemed to rally behind it and Lie to Me had its best ratings of the season — a 2.5 in the demo and 7.67 million.
Though the ratings had come way down, FOX execs claimed that they still valued the TV series and saw it as a solid utility player. Showrunner Alex Cary said, “Fox has been very clear with us — they know what the show is, they know what it can do. [The ratings bump] shows that people will come watch the show.”
Now, after three seasons on the air, the series is over. FOX has officially cancelled Lie to Me after 48 episodes. All of the installments have aired. Though there are too few episodes for a traditional syndication package, the first two seasons have already been released on DVD.

FOX seems to be full of money gripping imbecilles – another superior show cancelled because not enought people were watching to fill the pockets? did any of the brainless managers realize, there are events like world sport championships, olympic games, new wars and another actual events people seek out?After cancelling Almost Human for same reason Fox cancelled Lie To Me – I spit on you fox guys. What do we working people have to watch? Stupid crap like vampire diaries or himym?
Totally agree with you Radim – it never ceases to amaze me how networks can put out series that are total rubbish year after boring year, yet cancel an excellent programme like Lie to Me mid-way through the third season. It buggers belief and boggles the brain! Perhaps they think we are all just a bunch of mindless zombies that will watch any **** they serve up to us.
I’m going to cry right now. Like, this seems like a joke to me. “-Then what are you waiting for? -I don’t have an answer for that one, love.” I CAN’T BELIEVE IT. What about Cal and Gillian, that’s all we get to know? I’m so upset. I’ve been watching Lie To Me on Netflix these months, I just finished it, and I’m pretty disappointed. There are a lot of things that we couldn’t see and ugh I’m mad
I loved the shows. I believe the ratings did a lot better than they told. Another coverup by the elitist’s to dumb down the population! Since the majority of the viewers are lairs and no liars wishes to be exposed, they stopped showing the secrets of deception to the public. Especially when they flash back to celebrities, politicians and such showing their lied expressions. Educating those unworthy of the skills of detailed perception. Knowledge is power and this knowledge is to powerful to be handed down to the general public.
I loved this show so much and even though it was cancelled a couple years ago I would definitely keep watching it if they brought it back.

The reason is: People in general lie so much during their lifetimes, that the show “goes against their grain” of someone, a team, being able to detect their lives. In other words, most all people take it personally, whether they are a criminal or not, they have lied, some whoppers, some white, but all have lied.

Hey, I absolutely love “Lie to Me” and it definitely ended to abrupt for me, especially since there was so many things I was expecting to happen and new characters I wanted to see in action. Since finding it again on Netflix, I was hoping instead of petitioning for fox to bring back the show, maybe Netflix or another Network can pick it up where it left off? Anyone else agree?

Not to mention, there were so many things left unraveled. I mean, if they were to truly end it, I wish they’d had more of a finale that wrapped things up. Preferably not have canceled it at all, though.
Lie to Me is one of my all-time favorite series! It is much more interesting to hear about Cal Lightman and his group and science rather than hear about what recent food the Kardashians now like. I would marathon through the episodes into the wee hours of the morning! The banter between Lightman and his group is witty and fun, and the plots are actually interesting. I love Lightman. PLEASE BRING IT BACK, I NEED IT IN MY LIFE.

From the first episode I was hooked. I didn’t hear about the show until last year and I started watching it on Netflix. Since then I’ve looked into Micro expressions and how to recognize them so that I can use them on a daily basis. This is now my favorite show and even if they only brought it back for one more season I’d be okay because I just want what happens.
