Sometimes the truth hurts — especially when it comes to television ratings. After three seasons, FOX has cancelled Lie to Me.
Starring Tim Roth, Lie to Me revolves around Cal Lightman and members of The Lightman Group. They’re a team of specialists who help law enforcement agencies uncover the truth by using applied psychology. Others in the cast include Kelli Williams, Brendan Hines, Monica Raymund, Hayley McFarland, and Mekhi Phifer.
Last season, Lie to Me averaged a 2.9 rating in the all-important 18-49 demographic and 8.03 million total viewers. That was down from season one and the series found itself on the bubble for renewal. FOX ended up giving the TV series another chance and renewed it for 13 episodes.
Unfortunately, season three didn’t perform nearly as well as season two. It premiered last October to a 2.1 rating in the demo and 5.86 million. Viewership eroded in subsequent weeks and FOX declined to give the show a full season order. Lie to Me then hit a new series low in January, registering a meager 1.5 rating and 5.43 million viewers.

In its final weeks on the air, viewers seemed to rally behind it and Lie to Me had its best ratings of the season — a 2.5 in the demo and 7.67 million.
Though the ratings had come way down, FOX execs claimed that they still valued the TV series and saw it as a solid utility player. Showrunner Alex Cary said, “Fox has been very clear with us — they know what the show is, they know what it can do. [The ratings bump] shows that people will come watch the show.”
Now, after three seasons on the air, the series is over. FOX has officially cancelled Lie to Me after 48 episodes. All of the installments have aired. Though there are too few episodes for a traditional syndication package, the first two seasons have already been released on DVD.

I just finished rewatching the show, and am still so sad that it was cancelled. It’s really a great show; I forgot how much I loved it! Made me rethink what people really are saying haha

As the adage says, “If you want a happy ending, it depends on where you stop the story” and a good series like this deserves a better ending. Atleast, complete the whole story with the minimum number of episodes possible. Just forget about money or viewership and have a little respect towards the work and passion of the creator of the series and crew who are all involved in this. You can do better than this FOX.
Oh please make some more seasons of this show, it’s really one of the best shows on Fox and everywhere actually.

I just binged watched every show I LOVE THIS SHOW canceling was a huge mistake the only reason that the show plunged was because of internet streaming you should bring the show back who cares if its it’s been a few years it a great show and will continue to be
I missed Lie to Me when it aired on Fox, but watched all three seasons on Netflix. I was shocked when the last episode was actually the very last episode. Now I am going through withdrawal. Please bring it back for a season 4. Perhaps you’re going for the wrong demographics. I am one of many baby boomers.

This is an AMAZING show, only found it because of a psyc class on the matter but got everybody hooked on it! It is surprising the number of views as it is absolutely amazing, if it were to continue my family and i would definetely watch!

I was just about to say the same thing Melissa, literally just finished the final episode! Been 6 years, doubt we’ll ever see Lightman and Foster back together, solving crimes in their own unique way. Think Dr. Lightman would say ‘pity, luv’.
Please bring it back! I absolutely love this show and couldn’t believe it when I found out there is no season 4! I have watched all three seasons on Netflix non stop! Come on Season 4!!!

We are in our 50’s and have just found Lie to Me on Netflix. We absolutely love this programme, it is so full of emotion and the actors fabulous. We need more orogrammes like this in the UK. PLEASE carry on filming just for us Uk viewers. A bit of advertising over here and you have a hit. We need more so please bring it back. Thank you.
Kim, I am from the UK, and found Lie to Me on Netlfix on April 1 (weird!) I totally agree with you for them advertising over here. FOX should have there channel on in the US and the UK.
I just finished Lie to Me on Netflix and it was absolutely fantastic. I honestly cannot see why the show itself would be at any fault for the lack of ratings. I know it has been a few years since it ended, but it should have a season four. If it were something all the actors were willing to come back for I think they’d get plenty of people watching it.
