Sometimes the truth hurts — especially when it comes to television ratings. After three seasons, FOX has cancelled Lie to Me.
Starring Tim Roth, Lie to Me revolves around Cal Lightman and members of The Lightman Group. They’re a team of specialists who help law enforcement agencies uncover the truth by using applied psychology. Others in the cast include Kelli Williams, Brendan Hines, Monica Raymund, Hayley McFarland, and Mekhi Phifer.
Last season, Lie to Me averaged a 2.9 rating in the all-important 18-49 demographic and 8.03 million total viewers. That was down from season one and the series found itself on the bubble for renewal. FOX ended up giving the TV series another chance and renewed it for 13 episodes.
Unfortunately, season three didn’t perform nearly as well as season two. It premiered last October to a 2.1 rating in the demo and 5.86 million. Viewership eroded in subsequent weeks and FOX declined to give the show a full season order. Lie to Me then hit a new series low in January, registering a meager 1.5 rating and 5.43 million viewers.

In its final weeks on the air, viewers seemed to rally behind it and Lie to Me had its best ratings of the season — a 2.5 in the demo and 7.67 million.
Though the ratings had come way down, FOX execs claimed that they still valued the TV series and saw it as a solid utility player. Showrunner Alex Cary said, “Fox has been very clear with us — they know what the show is, they know what it can do. [The ratings bump] shows that people will come watch the show.”
Now, after three seasons on the air, the series is over. FOX has officially cancelled Lie to Me after 48 episodes. All of the installments have aired. Though there are too few episodes for a traditional syndication package, the first two seasons have already been released on DVD.
What do you think? Should Lie to Me have been renewed for season four?

Just started watching the show and I am hooked! This is a great show…witty, and intelligent. I still can’t believe it was cancelled. Please bring it back. Unlike The Bachelor or Dancing with the Stars, this show was worth watching, had interesting story lines, and a great cast.
This show was intelligent, humorous, and unique! I guess my opinion about the cancellation holds little value, however, I will comment anyway. It is very disappointing that in a television world of ridiculously unrealistic reality shows, predictable talk shows, and nonsensical media madness….a show comes along that is truly engaging with clever actors, and it is cancelled. The synergy between the actors and actresses was entertaining and I felt a part of the show; as when I read a book. The opinions of those of us who appreciate intelligent entertainment does not seem to matter after all. These are my… Read more »

Please Please Please Bring Lie to Me BACK!!!! I can’t believe it ended the way it did! I was outraged! I just heard of it in February of this year! Please bring it back!!!!
Only recently saw this show (didn’t take me long to devour it) loved it – just couldn’t believe it was cancelled & to have it end in the way it did – so sad – we never got the chance to see how the relationship between Cal & Gillian developes, how the new recruit would fit into the team, further character developments especially with Dr Foster like S3 E13 , … #BringBackLieToMe
“Lie To Me ” Should Not Stay Cancelled. This has been the only television show I chose first to watch once I became aware of it. First show I watched eagerly after 15 years volunteering and unable to watch TV at all.
I’ve read. This show is Fantastoc, engaging, challenging, on target for quality television. It’s hard to find any show despite that there are too many choices for people on the day to day.
Please, please reconsider. I want to see this show, “Lie To Me”!

Hi there
My son said to me on Netflix there’s a series called lie to me and I should check it out. I watch the first two with my son, and for the next two weeks in the evening I watched the rest of all 3 series. They are brilliant series with great characters I was surprised to find out today that the series has been cancelled. Please bring it back. Mark

I feel there should be a season 4 towards the end of season 3 you have a new face come to the show I would like to see what his role would have consist of and then on the last episode Cal’s daughter ask the question everyone wants to know and maybe the 4th season will engage on both of these situations
