It’s “lights out” for FX’s new boxing drama series. FX has cancelled Lights Out after one season due to poor ratings.
Lights Out revolves around Patrick ‘Lights’ Leary (Holt McCallany), an aging former heavyweight boxing champion. He struggles to find his identity and support his wife and three daughters after retiring from the ring. The poor economy and a series of bad investments leave Patrick at a perilous crossroads; battling the urge to return to boxing or reluctantly accepting a job as a brutal and intimidating debt collector. The show also features Catherine McCormack, Pablo Schreiber, and Stacy Keach.
Though some critics applauded the series, not many people watched the premiere in January. It registered just a 0.6 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 1.487 million viewers. The second episode dropped to a 0.4 rating and 0.92 million viewers. The season has averaged a 0.4 in the demo and 0.88 million.
To no surprise, FX isn’t ordering a second season of Lights Out. The cable channel made the announcement today and indicated that the final two episodes will air as previously scheduled; on March 29th and April 5th at 10pm.
What do you think? Are you sorry to see Lights Out cancelled? Why do you think it didn’t catch on?

It’s too bad they couldn’t get more viewers but I’m not sure the story could live on much longer anyway without Lights in the ring. This was one of the best shows on any channel and I hate to see it end. Just think of it as a great “made for tv” movie.
I can’t believe this show got canceled. It was one of the best shows on TV and
my favorite. What’s the matter with FX? Please give this show another season
to catch on. If a person watches it one time, they get hooked. It’s really that good!
I love Lights Out…..I look forward to Tuesday nights. Sometimes I watch a double of it.
I hope FX gives it a second chance. I’m not happy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The first to episodes was terrible but the rest of and the season finale and it should. Be based on Philadelphia boxers or boxer not like a Rocky but all the best gyms. And all the best boxer. Came out of Philadelphia. And it also should have been on a black boxer. I’m. A white male from Philadelphia. Pa and all of you writers and the people who create it the show should have. look. In to it more. Or if it was a white boxer it should have been on middle wait or a jr middle boxer it is… Read more »
I was so pissed when I heard this show had got cancelled. This was one of the best shows on tv and I loved it. Television today doesn’t have the appreciation for quality now it’s just all bull crap and no sense of true reality and struggle and triumph. That was what lights out was about and I hope that those idiots at FX will reconsider and give the show a chance.
I can’t believe it. Once again a show that I like is cancelled. Reality shows and stupid comedies go on forever. Help!!! First Terriers and now Lights Out. What is the network thinking—or not thinking?? Please reconsider your decision and bring both shows back.
Your Right They didn’t give the show A chance And it should be back for at least a nother chance they have all of these stupid reality series on tv and I think that it is stupid that’s all of the shows our on TV the reality series are too much is a show like this was a pretty decent show I love kids and I love to see people getting good shape but there are too many of them reality series I have kids 2 will you come film my family. And give me a show
Lights out was an amazing show
I think it is disgusting that Lights Out didn’t get a second season. FX did not give it a chance or advertise it enough. The story line got a bit depressing toward the end but it defintely held your attention. My husband and I both really liked the character, Patrick and wanted him to turn his life around. It is just more proof of all the bozos out there watching silly reality TV vs. great dramatic TV. We were happy that they finished the season with the fight but we want more!!!! It really does seem that all of the… Read more »
I love lights out, it sucks that they cacelled it.
I am soo upset that they are not going to even try to do a second season! Give it a chance to catch on! We found the show a few episodes in watch the back ones and got hooked! We then passed the show on to a few friends! Whom also loved it!!!! I really think a second season should happen! This is the first show since entourage started that we watch regularly!!!! there is to much stupid reality tv, why ant they try a good series! thank you for your time…. Melanie PA
I cannot believe they aren’t going to air a second season!!! I am so mad. It is easily the BEST show on tv right now!! I looked forward to Tuesday nights every week. It was an excellent show and I really hope FX will consider changing the decision to cancel it or another network will pick it up….please!!!
I am extremely upset to see this show get canceled. Are you kidding me? Low ratings? I just think it wasn’t advertised enough. This was my absolout favorite show of all time. This coming from a sixteen year old may not mean much, but all my friends would come over every tuesday just to watch this show. Even though I kind of figured it wouldn’t continue into a second season considering the fact that there’s really not much els you can put into the rest of the story, “Lights” wins the belt. But the thing that upset me the most… Read more »
I loved lights out and think that they should definitely reconsider having another series. I never missed one episode! Had me on the edge each show!
Ticked off that “Lights Out” was cancelled. This was one of the few shows that I watched. I also enjoyed “Terriors” which I understand was also cancelled. I think I will find something more constructive to do with my time than watch cable network shows. You either love the characters and storylines…only to have the rug pulled out from under you when when your favorite shows are cancelled, or you wait-what seems like a year for a new season to start. No more.
I think Lights Out got poor ratings because FX had poor advertising. Most people probably didn’t watch the premiere simply because FX didn’t spread awareness well enough. When people don’t watch the premiere, even less will watch the rest of the series. Personally, I wasn’t crazy about the season finale, but I loved Lights Out. I compare it to AMC’s Walking Dead. AMC and FX are two channels that most people don’t regularly watch for TV series. When AMC came out with the Walking Dead, though, they spread awareness for the show much better and it got better ratings as… Read more »
