It’s “lights out” for FX’s new boxing drama series. FX has cancelled Lights Out after one season due to poor ratings.
Lights Out revolves around Patrick ‘Lights’ Leary (Holt McCallany), an aging former heavyweight boxing champion. He struggles to find his identity and support his wife and three daughters after retiring from the ring. The poor economy and a series of bad investments leave Patrick at a perilous crossroads; battling the urge to return to boxing or reluctantly accepting a job as a brutal and intimidating debt collector. The show also features Catherine McCormack, Pablo Schreiber, and Stacy Keach.
Though some critics applauded the series, not many people watched the premiere in January. It registered just a 0.6 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 1.487 million viewers. The second episode dropped to a 0.4 rating and 0.92 million viewers. The season has averaged a 0.4 in the demo and 0.88 million.
To no surprise, FX isn’t ordering a second season of Lights Out. The cable channel made the announcement today and indicated that the final two episodes will air as previously scheduled; on March 29th and April 5th at 10pm.
What do you think? Are you sorry to see Lights Out cancelled? Why do you think it didn’t catch on?

i cant believe they cancelled this show it was one of the best series i have seen in a long time. How disapointing. I looked forward to watching it every tuesday. Every episode made me want to watch more and more. The hour was to short for such a great tv show. really wanted to see what happened in season two. Really disapointed with FOX!!!!!!!!
right show,…..wrong network
I cant believe its not getting a second season, I dedicated my tuesdays for this show, if there is a petition, I definitely would sign it yes bring it back
I love Patrrick Leary and the show So sorry to see it go. Enjoyed it immensely
I loved this show!! I was waiting for it until i saw this, my husband and i really enjoyed watching this together. This has to be one of the best shows in a long time please bring it back!
From overseas i watched the series on internet…. amazing season, amazing characters and great history. It glued me, and that’s not easy.
Maybe no history for a second season but sure in a future that show will be honored as it deserves…
wow how can you cancel Lights out!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :'( best series ever
Great show-Big mistake. The only series I’d been watching since 24 went down. Couldn’t wait for next episode.
I agree with Shane, I don’t think the show got it’s fair shake. What are people watching these days!?! I’m baffled that those idiots on Jersey Shore are getting spinoffs while a GREAT drama likes this gets the boot after one season! Lights Out was a GREAT drama and had it gotten more hype from the network on NBC (after all doesn’t NBC own FX), more people would have tuned in to it. I didn’t hear about it on TV, I read a review about the series when it was upcoming. I didn’t miss a single episode. I’m sorry to… Read more »
Put it in a primtime slot and watch the ratings go up it was a great show
What a bunch of ********. Lights was a great show and i was hooked from th very begining. Meanwhile crap like jersey shore a sixteen and pregnant continue to soar in ratings. I know the nickname is ‘boobtube’ but i didnt relize that complete idiots ruled the damn thing.
so, Lights really out…
I CANT BELIEVE IT.. LIGHTS OUT WAS ONE OF THE BEST SHOWS EVER…OMG
I am in disbelief ; I can not believe you cancelled such a great series this series was one of the best by far. If there is a petition to sign to air this season again Oo will one f thousands to sign to get this show aired. FX should run a second season to get the show known. Perhaps. There was not enough advertising running
My god I cannot believe it. I don’t watch much TV and if I do the show has got to be good and “Lights Out” was a knock out! Every week my boys (ages 11 & 13) and I would watch the show and get upset when it ended. Every character was so well acted – especially Moses. I couldn’t believe Patrick got rid of him. My answer to my boys was that Moses will return next season. Oh well, so much for that. The season finale was a great ending to a great show. We’ll miss you Lights!
