It’s “lights out” for FX’s new boxing drama series. FX has cancelled Lights Out after one season due to poor ratings.
Lights Out revolves around Patrick ‘Lights’ Leary (Holt McCallany), an aging former heavyweight boxing champion. He struggles to find his identity and support his wife and three daughters after retiring from the ring. The poor economy and a series of bad investments leave Patrick at a perilous crossroads; battling the urge to return to boxing or reluctantly accepting a job as a brutal and intimidating debt collector. The show also features Catherine McCormack, Pablo Schreiber, and Stacy Keach.
Though some critics applauded the series, not many people watched the premiere in January. It registered just a 0.6 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 1.487 million viewers. The second episode dropped to a 0.4 rating and 0.92 million viewers. The season has averaged a 0.4 in the demo and 0.88 million.
To no surprise, FX isn’t ordering a second season of Lights Out. The cable channel made the announcement today and indicated that the final two episodes will air as previously scheduled; on March 29th and April 5th at 10pm.
What do you think? Are you sorry to see Lights Out cancelled? Why do you think it didn’t catch on?

I loved Lights Out and thought the show was wonderful. I am very disappointed.
fx has problems, that show was great.
sad to see it cancelled.
This seemed to be a change of pace from all those cop, and lawyer shows. It’s too bad.
I thought the characters in Lights Out were gteat and I am sorry to just learn that the show will not return this fall. Bummer, big time!!!!
i am very upset that there isn’t going to be a second season it was one of the only show i watch, it kindda reminded me of the sopranos
I love that show i hate that they pulled it. It had a great story line and is one of a few shows that i watched the whole season. UGH! :-/
I really enjoyed the show. It had real people, real problems, and it was easy to follow. There was continuous action to keep you there even between commercials. I really looked forward to watching it with my mom during the week and even the replays on the weekend. One of the better shows that didn’t need excessive subliminal advertising like other shows on fox, nbc, abc, and cbs.
One of the few shows on TV my family liked. This is very disappointing.
I had no idea they cancelled it! Very disappointed. I just pulled it up online to see when the next season began. I think it should have been given another chance at another time. I didn’t even know about the show until looking through On Demand on day and found it. Withing three days, I had watched the whole season!!! My son watched on with me and he was hooked. We were really looking forward to the new season. These guys need to think things out before cancelling shows so quickly. What doesn’t work on one night or one time… Read more »
i really liked that show very much. maybe not enough people knew about it.
NOOO! I loved that show!!!
Was way disappointed to find out the series was cancelled. Looked forward to this show every week. Especially loved the boxing–reminded me of Rocky in a way. Thought “Lights” was excellent. I guess if it was a comedy mnaybe it would have had a better chance!! How come all the good shows with an actual story line to them get cancelled?? Guess I’ll just have to wait for Sons of Anarchy.
My husband and I really enjoyed watching this show. We looked forward to seeing it every week. It makes me so mad to get involved with a series just to find out the network isn’t going to renew it. VERY disappointing!
I am very upset that the show was cancelled. It was one of the few shows I enjoyed watching. It keep me wondering what was gong to happen next. I to got involved in the show and now the network is not going to air it. I agree VERY disappointing!
WHY, was such a good show. Me and my Son loved it. Disappointed
