Why did CBS cancel Limitless? At this summer’s TCA press tour, network chief Glenn Geller explained why there will be no second season of the series, TVInsider reports.
Based on the 2011 film, the drama followed Brian Finch (Jake McDorman), who is given a special drug that unlocks 100% of his brain. The cast also included Jennifer Carpenter, Mary Elizabeth Mastrantonio, Hill Harper, and Colin Salmon.
During the panel, Geller said CBS cancelled Limitless because he didn’t “think it connected with the viewers”:
Ultimately we had to look at the show; it was a very good show, but I don’t think it connected with the viewers as well as other shows had. Yeah, we could have brought it back. But we also have to put on new shows and give other things a shot. It could have come back, but we have to do better; we want to improve time periods. That’s why we put on new shows.”
What do you think? Did you watch Limitless? Do you think the show should’ve been renewed?
Loves this show. It was like psychic and Chuck mixed together. Bummer
I thought the show was great couldn’t wait for it to come on bought dvr so I wouldn’t miss it. Sad it isn’t coming back sell it to another network !!!
Absolutely ridiculous!!! This is a great show. One of the best TV shows I’ve ever watched. There is so many garbage shows still running and you cancel something as amazing as LIMITLESS?!?! BRING THE SHOW BACK!!!
One of my favourite shows always something new happening, can not believe there will be no season 2 I’m very disappointed just when you get into a show it’s cancelled. Why????
The show was smart and quick. The characters were multi-dimensional and complex. It was classy. It showed a flawed main character struggling to become better! What was the problem again? Not enough sex and violence maybe? I truly enjoyed the first season and I was looking very forward to watching these characters become even more developed. Very disappointed.
Here we go again.. A fun, well designed plot that had so much potential. It could have gone in directions that perhaps they didn’t even consider. Tackling some of the complex principles science has yet to conquer such as time travel, multiple dimensions of existence by expanding the scope of the series. You know, stealing a bit of the fun where prior successful stories emerged from the writers crypt not unlike Fringe, The X-Files, etc.. Too Bad, in my opinion. Obviously, it was limited, not limitless.
I am not easily drawn in but this show, like the movie, was very captivating. Its cancellation is a huge disappointment. How do we get multiple seasons of crap like big brother and other reality shows but something smart and compelling does not connect with audiences? How do the people who make these decisions get and keep there jobs? That is what should not be renewed for another “season”!
My family was hoping for a season 2. I hate that any show that grabs your attention and you follow it ends to soon. My kids are in their 20’s and I an 60 so the age did not matter.
Limitless was a great show! It was intriguing, funny and had a lot of potential. Well written and acting was good. Very disappointed it was cancelled. Was looking forward to seeing it.
Idiots!
… it would be nice if the networks shared these overwhelmingly negative stats by which they made this (and other) decisions. I simply don’t believe it did not connect to a broad demographic of viewers.
Politics? Money? Promises made? The opinions of the executive producers children?
Probably the most addicting TV shows I have seen in awhile. Really upset that there isn’t going to be a second season…
Man, I am super bummed out about this. This was such a creative, fresh show. Superb writing with interesting plot lines and fine acting by the entire crew. I’m just baffled that they didn’t renew this. It was bound for cult classic status.
Idiots!! There are sooo many idiotic shows out there and they pass on a “very good show?”
Idiots!
Yes, I watched Limitless every week. I really liked it. I miss it!
It was fun to watch the amazing things Finch could come up with, could do. It was a fun escape from real life. I wish they would bring it back!
I am sooooo disappointed. Finally a show I liked. GONE :
