We all saw it coming. One of the most anticipated TV shows of the new fall season, Lone Star, has been cancelled after two episodes.
Lone Star centers around a handsome conman (James Wolk) who lives a double life to swindle investors and an oil tycoon family. He starts to have regrets and struggles to balance both lives and keep everybody happy. Others in the series are Jon Voight, Adrianne Palicki, Bryce Johnson, David Keith, Eloise Mumford, and Mark Deklin.
The FOX series debuted last week to a very disappointing 1.3 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 4.1 million total viewers. Last night, despite several days of buzz and campaigning to get new viewers, the ratings fell even lower to a 1.0 rating in the demo and 3.23 million viewers. As was the case in week one, many people who started watching tuned out before the episode was over. For whatever reason, it just didn’t click.
Lone Star has been cancelled effective immediately and the three remaining unaired episodes have been shelved. There’s no word if FOX will get around to releasing the remaining episodes at some point in the future.
Last week, the cast and crew were shooting the sixth installment. Production has now been shut down and it’s unclear if that episode was completed.
Lone Star’s spot will be filled by the season three premiere of Lie to Me.
What do you think? Are you sorry to see Lone Star be cancelled? If you watched, where do you think it went wrong?
UPDATE: Subsequent reports have indicated that there are six completed episodes with four left unaired.

I thought it was one of the best new shows on television, I was very disappointed when I found out there were no other episodes to be shown. I wish it could get a second chance.
only show ive seen with a good story line ina long time. Re-air it!!!
I was looking for this show online, because I watch most of my favorites, Dexter/GoodGuys/Office/RunningWilde online now. It is upseting. I liked the show wasn’t fond of a couple of the characters, but overall wanted to watch how the drama plays out. Great concept and plot lots of potential nailbitters. IT IS A SHAME!
I thought that it was an excellent show… one of the better new series this season. Very sad to see it go. I don’t know that it was given enough of a chance to see if it would succeed.
I think it was a great idea and concept, however I’d say that they went wrong in that there was no appeal to the female audience. It was a male dominated show- male lead, males own the companies/ secure the deals. There’s nothing wrong with that except that there probably should have been some factor in there to keep a female viewing audience engaged. A subplot of the wives finding out, or something to this degree. Something other than two women who have the wool pulled over their eyes. hmmmmmmmmmmmmm!
Two shows? That’s it? What happened to giving it some time–a chance? Moving to a better time slot? How do you get an idea of what a show is going to do without supporting it a little? Fox executives a little ADD? Or did someone have a grudge against the show?
Best show of the new season. Can’t believe it was cancelled! How dissappointing! Wish FOX would reconsider and bring it back.
Typical Fox move. Why let good shows (“Firefly”, “Drive”, now “Lone Star”) have a chance when you can throw any half bake reality crap at people so they don’t have to think. This is why Fox will always be a second rate network.
I liked the show. It was suspensefull at every turn. I made sure I was always able to sit down and watch the show and when I found out it was cancelled I was really bothered by it . Lonestar was one of the many better shows that fox has aired in a while. I really think they should air it again because I kno plenty of people including myself would watch it.
Loved it. Why do they cancel the good shows?
I loved the concept and the actors were fantastic, especially seeing Jon Voight again on the screen. Hate to see it cancelled without a full season.
This was a good show, I don’t know way they don’t give some of these shows a chance to develop. In this age of DVR’s I Tivo almost every show we watch simply because there are so many to watch it is impossible to see them all on the nights they are aired. I watch most of the shows I tape on “slow” nights when I don’t like the shows that are on. I have taped entire series simply because of time and watch them on the off season. What a pity.
I loved the show. It was a great concept and the lead character was amicable. The advertisements were awesome. We needed more shows that showed the dilemmas that some people may encounter and need to have a conscience and realize what they are doing is wrong. Even if they are being pressured they try to find a way to make things right. I have not been a viewer of FOX since beverly hills, 90210 and i am a picky viewer. i was really looking forward to this show. I believe that the time slot was all wrong. hopefully, FOX will… Read more »
i DVR’d it .. and just finally got around to watching it… I don’t usually watch new shows.. or.. even shows in general.. until they have been on for awhile.. but.. I think this show had potential .. i’m not sure where it was going, but.. i could see it as something like the show Dallas .. eventually.. that calibur.. but.. .i guess I’m wrong.. lol …. i only saw the pilot.. wasn’t sure if I was going to watch all of it as it went on, but.. i stayed with it.. and was wanting more… to see where it… Read more »
I loved the show… I generally stick away from fox because they are too into reality tv but this show looked real good… And it was…. I definitely agree with a different time slot. Looks like they lost another one….well they get me for the cartoons…. but thats it
