Luther is not coming to FOX – at least a remake of the series isn’t. That is the latest from Dana Walden, the woman in charge at the network. The series had been in development since 2014.
At a recent event, Walden revealed that plans for a remake of the popular UK series for FOX would not move forward due to the difficulty of finding an actor suitable to take on the role of Luther for the series. Idris Elba stars on the UK series. Mahershala Ali was considered for the role, but plans fell through.
Walden said the following, per a Broadcast Now report:
“It’s a little daunting to contemplate who is Luther now when US viewers can see the [original] show on Netflix and BBC America. I’ve seen black, male Luther. I know exactly the best version of it. I saw it with Idris. That doesn’t mean Mahershala wouldn’t have done something really interesting and different. But it felt ultimately like a character who came from the same place, because the US version is even written similarly.”

Thank god they cancelled the idea fox would just butcher the crap out of it.Besides its too thought provoking for alot of Americans and besides its not a piece of crap like a Kartrashian or Reality Garbage
Oh, come on! I can’t be the only one who would’ve liked to see a U.S. version of Luther. Unless another network picks the idea up. Such as ABC, NBC, CBS, USA Network, CMT, The CW or Netflix.
Nobody could have replaced Idris Elba. Enough said.
Why doesn’t FOX just get the rights to air Luther? No need to remake it.

I would not have watched the remake anyways. It really is not a great loss, that Fox is not going to remake Luther. Because. No one can fill Idris Elba’s shoes. Period.
No, I do not want another lukewarm, pale American imitation of a great BBC show, especially considering the BBC show is still on. WTH is wrong with American writers, is everyone just completely out of original ideas? Between lame versions of other countries’ shows and re-re-re-boots of old shows and movies, most network TV is crap these days, and I can’t say I’ve watched any of those those copies or reboots.

So true.. I watch way more foreign series on netflix.. They are really good.. even with the subtitles.. I just watched the original French version of The Returned the. i tried to watch the Americqn version… it was no comparison.. That being said… leave the original Luther.. no remake..
I’ve given up on American TV except for a few HBO, Netflix and Showtime shows. Mostly watch Acorn Media and BBC… or even PBS!
