Season two of Manhattan may have ended this week, but there’s still hope for more of the WGN America historical drama. Recently, series creator Sam Shaw spoke with Entertainment Weekly about the writing of season two and his plans for another season.
The second season of Manhattan finished on December 15th.
Manhattan follows a group of fictionalized characters in 1940s Los Alamos, New Mexico, just as the Manhattan Project is getting underway. The series stars John Benjamin Hickley as scientist Dr. Frank Winter, in addition to Olivia Williams, William Petersen, and Daniel Stern.
Speaking to Entertainment Weekly, Shaw mentioned that the future of the show is currently an “open question.” As of now, there’s been no official renewal from WGN America. Ratings for season one of the series fared poorly, with an average viewership of only 420,000 viewers. Season two decreased slightly.
Nonetheless, Shaw still has plans for a third season. He says the series, as a whole, is like a “three-act play,” and the end of season two is the the end of the first act.
Shaw, on the future of Manhattan:
I thought of this show as a kind of three-act play and the end of this season should just bring us to the end of the first act of that story. What awaits is a story about the America that was born on the other side of World War II. The beginning of the atomic age and the way in which we remade ourselves. I hope we’ll get to follow characters in this moment when Los Alamos goes from being the best kept secret in the world to being the most famous city on the planet.”
What do you think? Do you watch Manhattan? Would you like to see another season?
Manhattan is by far one of the best series I’ve seen in years.Well written, well acted, well directed. This is definitely a thinking mans (or womans) series…too slick for the mass market types who are easily entertained by silly ides and story lines

Would love for this to continue, at least for some closure.
My wife and I love The Manhattan Project and cannot wait till season 3 starts!
Depicting American race of the ATOMIC BOMB and not finishing the series , is become a theme for America where SCIENCE, requiring thought is immediately dismissed because 30 million teenagers are watching dragons & naked women

Love the show. Please continue with season 3.
Yes, PLEASE do not cancel it. Possibly no one has really connected Manhattan with the Manhattan Project. When one of the senior citizens sees the name we automatically connect it Please advertise it for one more year and I bet ratings picks up.
Yes please continue this smart, well-acted history. One of my all time favorites.
