Megyn Kelly is in trouble at NBC. According to TMZ, the network has cancelled her morning TV show, Megyn Kelly Today, in the wake of some controversial remarks. 10/26/2018 update: NBC has confirmed Megyn Kelly Today is cancelled. Deadline reports NBC and the anchor are hashing out an (imminent) exit strategy. Kelly is one year into a three-year, $69 million contract with the network.
Last year, Kelly joined NBC after leaving FOX News. The deal included a nightly news program, Sunday Night with Megyn Kelly, and the daytime talk show Megyn Kelly Today, which premiered in September 2017.
On Tuesday’s episode of Megyn Kelly Today, the host made some controversial remarks about the racist practice of blackface that received immediate criticism. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Kelly and NBC were already uncertain about the future of the daytime series and now it seems the show will no longer continue.
What do you think? Did you watch Megyn Kelly Today? Do you think it deserved a second chance?
I liked the Megyn Kelly show. Since I’m working at the time the show airs, I record it and watch it when I get home. I think it is TOTALLY UNFAIR that she was fired. She should be reinstated asap. NBC is just using that as an excuse to take her off the air and save money. We all know it is a sham. Shame on you NBC!
She has nothing to apologize for! She was simply stating how it was “back then” not how she felt about the subject. The racist word was not thrown around like it is today when I was growing up. Not all areas of the US heard the expressed feelings of the black people so did not understand that they were being offensive. The Megyn Kelly show is the only show I watched faithfully. When there are disgusting shows like The View (different station) still airing, I am upset that Megyn was taken off!!!
I agree whole heartily.
Show was to light. She was great on FOX HEWS but fluff pieces? She shouldn’t have been fired as the ladies liked her. Still the ratings were terrible so it was a good excuse to fire her and saves millions.
Best morning show on NBC. Big booboo!!
I don’t think white people get to decide what is racially insensitive. And Megyn has a history of being racially ignorant (insisting Santa and Jesus is white). But her show had low ratings and NBC paid too much for her so this was their excuse to get rid of her.
I did not see the comments as anything that resembled racism. If she was a racist I don’t think she would have made the comments. The bad news is it gave some of her jealous racist colleagues a great opportunity to throw her under the bus. NBC is definitely not a place for independent thinkers.
Is it only me or someone else to horny when watch her show?
Nearly everyone at NBC was unhappy with Ms. Kelly for quite some time so I’m not surprised that they decided to let her go. Aside from being self absorbed, Ms. Kelly also seems to be money hungry too especially while knowing that she has now hired a lawyer to try and get the rest of her contract money from the network. Good luck with that!
So in my opinion there’s a huge difference between what people consider ‘blackface’ which is demeaning and dressing as a person of a different color. I’m white and if I wanted to attend a Halloween party as a black celebrity I admire, how else could I imitate him, and what would be wrong with it? If a black guy wants to go as me, I have no problem with him putting on powder. Like they say, imitation is the sincerest form of flattery. To me it’s all about how it’s presented and people take things the wrong way too many… Read more »
This response is the VERY DEFINITION of white privelege! It is WRONG whether you think it is or not!!
Actually, that saying isn’t purely accurate. In the past, blacks were imitated by showing our bottoms as large, our lips as large and exaggerated, but it was done in the name of “imitation”. unfortunately, not all people see us in the light that we see ourselves. The time may come when we won’t have to fear how people represent us, that time is not here yet. All that said, I DO NOT think that M K should have lost her job. Afterall. she is not the one who wore the costume, she only commented. People are too quick to levy… Read more »
I think Megan deserves a 2nd chance. She has apologized and should be forgiven!
I agree. They said her show was some of the best ratings on the network and she was the highest paid…which could have been the real reason for wanting to let her go, just to cut the budget a little.
Are you kidding me.
What Megan said was not racist.
I agree! Megan nearly commented on how attitude was when she was young…how things were in my generation!!!!
She would have been a kid in the 70’s and 80’s – same time I was a kid. I don’t know what planet she lived on. But here on Earth, “black-face” was indeed racist then – and NO ONE was wearing that as a costume, period.
At the worst she was probably ignorant and/or mis-informed. Certainly didn’t deserve to lose her job in this quick swing of the axe!!!
Yes, the show deserves a second chance. Come on people.
Please keep her, she is hot!
I watched the segment in question and didn’t think it was that bad…..To cancel her show based on that’s remark is flat crazy and example of how out of balance we have become….She is A great asset to NBC and it’s A shame to watch them squander such A good investment…
Instead of Ms. Kelly, NBC should have a daytime game show or two!
You mean, like a new game show? Or a revived game show?
That show deserves a second chance.
No. She has to go…..now
