Detective Dwight Hendricks (Jason Lee) has sung his last Elvis song and solved his last case. TNT has cancelled Memphis Beat after two season on the air.
A TNT spokesperson said, “TNT has decided not to pick up a third season of Memphis Beat… The network thanks everyone involved in the production of Memphis Beat for their work on the series, including the great cast and crew. TNT wishes everyone the best.” The last episode aired on August 16th.
Beat was the last of the TNT dramas to have its fate decided. The cable channel renewed Leverage, Rizzoli & Isles, Falling Skies, and Franklin & Bash but cancelled Beat, HawthoRNe, and Men of a Certain Age. Men had the worst ratings of the three axed series while HawthoRNe and Beat were next in line.
Lee will next be seen on NBC’s Up All Night and Beat creators/spouses Liz Garcia and Josh Harto recently sold a new drama to the peacock network called The Meadows.
What do you think? Are you sorry that Memphis Beat has been cancelled? What would you have liked to see happen in season three?

not much of a surprise – if they would cancel a show that was actually good like Men of a Certain Age – I knew this one wouldn’t have a hope!
I am so, so , so sorry that Memphis Beat has been cancelled. I really loved that show. For folks in their 50’s & 60’s like I am this was a welcomed show especially compared to the stupid reality shows that are so scripted and not aimed to our age group. I loved each & every character on Memphis Beat and I waited each & every week for it to air. I think that TNT is NUTS for letting this program go. Hopefully another network will have the good sense to get this show. Let’s hope that TNT does not… Read more »
That stinks It was one of the best shows on TV Of course they always take off the good shows. TNT you stink
It was a good show except for having the dwight character sing in every episode. It was not lee’s voice and seemed pushed and fake. It brought the show down. it was even shot in new orleans not memphis——-how dumb was that?????
Loved this show – it was light and different – Too bad, I will miss it!
i hate to see it go being originally from Memphis, it was nice seeing the sights of my hometown in the background… and i thought the cast was great…. good luck to all in the the future…. 🙂
I think the viewers and hollywood writers forgot what entertainment means .. The crap they play now!, its about money !!! okay money makes the world ..,but come on, wake up reality shows give us something …..
Just couldn’t get into this show at all no matter how hard I tried and finally gave up on it early this past season.
While I didn’t watch every episode, what I did see was a good story plot, technically well produced with professional actors. The networks are currently showing a huge number of law enforcement themed series and that in itself may be part of the reason why it is difficult to attract enough viewers.
This sucks. This was one of the best shows on TV. Quality writing and acting. Jason Lee was stellar. What ********.
I think TNT has lost its mind. This was a great show – wonderful actors, smart writers and talented directors – that deserved better than TNT!
Part of the problem was making people wait forever for the new season to start and not showing reruns in prime-time….it was like they did not want an audience.
I am really sorry to see Memphis Beat go….and I do sincerely hope that another cable channel grows a brain and renews this great cast of characters! What a loss!
We’re very disappointed. Its very quirkiness is what was so appealing. It doesn’t say much for the American TV-watching public when shows like “Beat” are cancelled, but those stupid reality shows, & not to mention “talent” shows ad nauseum, remain to clutter up the airwaves.
Thats sucks. I wanted to see more of the depth Dwight and his mom had in their relationship. Something was happening with the Caption’s kid too. So that sucks. WTFE honestly. It was as good as their other shows. I think it just wasn’t doing good enough and wasn’t worth bringing back, keeping in mind they have 3 new shows next summer.
I never really watched the show but I saw some of it. I kinda figured this would happen, though. Sorry to the cast.
