Cable channel TNT has decided to cancel Men of a Certain Age after two seasons on the air.
Starring Ray Romano, Andre Braugher, and Scott Bakula, Men of a Certain Age follows the lives of three best friends as they face the realities of middle age.
Having debuted in December of 2009, the first season of Men attracted a 1.0 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 3.2 million total viewers. While the season started off strong, viewership quickly dwindled. Still, that was enough to see it renewed for a second season.
Year two kicked off last December to a 0.6 rating and 2.4 million viewers, essentially matching the lowest-rated episode of season one. The numbers got even worse.
TNT split year two into a pair of half-seasons with six installments each. The first half averaged a poor 0.5 demo rating with 2.16 million viewers. The second half didn’t bring any better news, garnering a 0.4 demo and 1.59 million.
With numbers like these, it’s no surprise that TNT has decided against ordering season three. The July 6th installment ends up being the defacto series finale.
A statement from TNT explains it this way: “TNT has been proud to be a part of Men of a Certain Age for two seasons. While the show has featured great storytelling and impeccable performances, the audience simply hasn’t built to the point where we can continue the series. This was an extremely difficult decision for us. We wish Ray Romano, Mike Royce and the terrific cast and crew of Men of a Certain Age the very best and look forward to exploring new programming possibilities in the future.”
What do you think? Are you sorry that Men of a Certain Age has been cancelled? Why do you think many viewers stopped watching?

This is kind of like when Northern Exposure was dropped and they kept The Flash!!
Such an awful decission. This show could have been number one on gavel if TNT didn’t screw up its schedule.
Another good reason to go back to rabbit ears!!
Drop the moronic earthling vs. alien show instead!!
U guys must be complete morons. Cause only morons would cancel this show. Are u all 20 somethings or what?
I hate to see quality shows such as this one go, but that seems to be the case in recent years where networks care more about viewership then what is actually playing on tv and its impact to the viewers they do possess. Garbage like “Jersey Shore”, “Mob Wives”, and “Chuck” go into numerous renewal seasons while – A – caliber acting shows like this one gets their budget cut between season 1 and 2 and then dumped. Remember the 80’s when it was enough room to leave good and bad shows on TV for years ie:”A-Team” v.s “Cagney and… Read more »
Oh, how sad!
I am really sorry to see this show end. It has been one of mine and my husband’s favorites. The acting, storylines, and character development are rich and unique. The stories are not something that has been rehashed from other shows. They are original, touching and so very funny. I sincerely hope another channel picks up this series and does more to bring it to the attention of the public. It is such an excellant program. We looked forward to every episode. I now question wheather I want to get invested in anymore TNT programs if they can drop the… Read more »
We are so disapointed this wonderful show is being cancelled! We love this program and find the writing so imagnative and the acting just, well, they all should be winning awards. And what happens? It gets cancelled. Is there no explanation for T.V. watchers tuning into all the reality shows, and so much of the dribble on and letting a quality show like this one slip through their fingers. Please, someone wake up and find a place for these “Men”!
Great show, Great acting, Horrible Camera work. It was almost as shaky as Battlestar Galactica Season 1. I am really sad to see the show go 🙁
Maybe someone will pick it up .
Distributors- this show would translate so well outside of the US. It should not be cancelled- it should continue and be promoted abroad. It is some of the best TV ever- that has been inadequatly marketed. It came to my attention only through CNN international- Pierce Morgan Tonight. Three actors I knew of well (From Everbody loves Raymond- Quantum Leap and House). As soon as the show ended I was searching online to watch it- and I was hooked. It cannot end this way….
One of the best shows on TV! Good writing and character development.
Hope someone else picks it up. It’s too good not to continue!
great…

I just recently started re-watching this show and I have to say that I’m not all that surprised about a cancellation. Great acting, good writing, and what appeared to be a jonesing crack head holding the camera. Despite the camera work I was beginning to care about the show, but I understand how people would be turned off, after all it turned me away during season 1.
