At the start of the season, we wondered which new NBC medical drama had the best chance at survival — Mercy or Trauma. It was hard to decide but now, they’ve both been cancelled anyway.
Mercy follows the lives of three very different nurses at Mercy Hospital in Jersey City. The cast includes Taylor Schilling, Jaime Lee Kirchner, Michelle Trachtenberg, James Tupper, Diego Klattenhoff, Guillermo Diaz, James LeGros, James Van Der Beek, and Delroy Lindo.
The medical drama got off to a pretty poor start last September, attracting a 2.3 rating in the all-important 18-49 demographic and 8.25 million total viewers. Unfortunately, viewership fell even lower from there.
Despite the ratings, NBC ordered a full season of episodes, likely because the network needed the original programming. Though NBC’s Primetime Entertainment President Angela Bromstad said she liked the show creatively, she noted that the show’s ratings had to improve for it to survive.
The ratings didn’t improve. The most recent episode attracted only a 1.1 rating in the demo and 4.01 million viewers.
To no surprise, the Mercy TV show’s now been cancelled. The 22nd and final episode aired last Wednesday, May 12th. Unfortunately, it wasn’t intended to be a series finale and didn’t wrap up the show.
What do you think? Are you sorry to hear that Mercy won’t be back for season two? What would you have liked to have seen happen?

This sucks! I LOVED Mercy – best show on TV in a very long time. NBC – PLEASE bring it back!!!
I loved that show, I have been waiting for it to come back on so I could find out what happened to the her and the men………I say bring it back.
Dang dang dang really wanted to see what happened to both men…. Grrrrrrrr
I loved the show! I watched alll the episodes on HULU, because I could not see them when they aired. I am mad as hell that we will not get to know what happens!!!
This just sucks!
Loved this show. As a nurse, I found the story line very inspiring and showed a positive a strong professional. The PTSD was a good center for these healthcare providers, because it is pertinent to present day. I am so sad this did not continue. With better marketing and maybe on a different night, I am sure it would have been a hit!
i think it sucks that they cancelled Mercy I loved the show….I was wondering what happened to Mike and Dr.Sands….If they lived or die it was getting really good til they stopped.
It was a clever show and depicted post war PTSD. The acting is excellent. I’m very disappointed that it was cancelled.
Very upset to find out that Mercy is cancelled. This is a great show that keeps you wanting to see more each week. Also VERY HUGE Disappointment where it left us off at? What in the world happened?? Bring the show back!!
I loved this show!!! I am so disappointed that it was cancelled….and the end of season 1 had a perfect set up for a next season now we will never know what happened to Chris at the airport.l..did he make it to Afghanistan? or what about Mike did he get hit by the oncoming car? or Veronica does she get back with Mike or continue to go back and forth? or if Nick actually did take Sonia back…and poor Chloe will she ever find a guy that is not married, engaged or that dies on her within days of meeting?… Read more »
I watched the first season of Mercy on Netflix while crocheting beanies. Bummed to find out it got cancelled. Really enjoyed it.
Hi…i really enjoyed watching Mercy season 1, why cant they make a season 2. Here in South africa we all really enjoyed watching it… I thought it was brilliant very much on par with grey’s anatomy. Pity
I discovered Mercy on Netflix and am completely in love with it. I love the humour and it so well written. I am enraged to learn (after just watching the last episode earlier today) that its been cancelled. An ending like that needs to be addressed. I never saw previews for it or anything. Bring it back on a different night and give it a real shot! Anyone I know who HAS watched it really liked it. Not a negative word against it. I want my Mercy!!!
This was a great show. Realistic characters that had me hooked… for episodes to come. So sad that it was cancelled. What a pity.
I really liked the show. I thought it was very engaging and very well written. I thought the characters were well developed and the story lines were believeable. I kept hoping they were on hiatus, but now I’m saddened to learn it’s been cancelled. I agree with bringing it back on a different night. I also don’t really think the show was adequately promoted. I just ran across it one night and became hooked. Shame on you NBC. I think you missed out on a good one. If memory serves, the TV show Everyone loves Ray, didn’t do very well… Read more »
If I remember right Mercy and American idol were on the same night right? If so that’s a big reason why the lack of viewers because everyone was was AI for it’s last season with Simon. Also Wednesday is a night people go to church so bring it back on a different night. Don’t just cancel the show.
