At the start of the season, we wondered which new NBC medical drama had the best chance at survival — Mercy or Trauma. It was hard to decide but now, they’ve both been cancelled anyway.
Mercy follows the lives of three very different nurses at Mercy Hospital in Jersey City. The cast includes Taylor Schilling, Jaime Lee Kirchner, Michelle Trachtenberg, James Tupper, Diego Klattenhoff, Guillermo Diaz, James LeGros, James Van Der Beek, and Delroy Lindo.
The medical drama got off to a pretty poor start last September, attracting a 2.3 rating in the all-important 18-49 demographic and 8.25 million total viewers. Unfortunately, viewership fell even lower from there.
Despite the ratings, NBC ordered a full season of episodes, likely because the network needed the original programming. Though NBC’s Primetime Entertainment President Angela Bromstad said she liked the show creatively, she noted that the show’s ratings had to improve for it to survive.
The ratings didn’t improve. The most recent episode attracted only a 1.1 rating in the demo and 4.01 million viewers.
To no surprise, the Mercy TV show’s now been cancelled. The 22nd and final episode aired last Wednesday, May 12th. Unfortunately, it wasn’t intended to be a series finale and didn’t wrap up the show.
What do you think? Are you sorry to hear that Mercy won’t be back for season two? What would you have liked to have seen happen?

That was one of the greatest Tv show. Here in Latvia are many people watching it. And I am disapointed that I can’t see continue.
Sososososo dissapointed they cancelled it!!
I have been waiting and waiting untill i finally looked it up to see that it was cancelled!?
This Sucks becuse it was such a good show, one of the better one’s ive seen. And I was really looking forward to seeing season 2, ecpecially since they left us all hangin’…
Loved Mercy – I didn’t even find out about it until the season was half way over. It wasn’t the shows fault – it was the fault of the promotions department. The show was GREAT.
I so loved Mercy. The cast was very funny and intense. Great story line. I had never heard of it. I found it on Netflix and I’m so disappointed it had to end. “And what an ending ? Huh?
Why should this come as a surprise? The single most important criteria NBC uses to consider canceling a program is whether or not the series is good. If a program is good, it dies. They don’t appreciate good writing, acting, or a commitment to quality programming. Fill the time with another 5th rate reality show. We want garbage, just consider the ratings! NBC is striving with all their might to become Nothing But Crap. It is very sad.
I watched this show on Netflix. I was so BUMMED it was cancelled. I don’t have TV, so don’t know what it was up against but I thought it was an excellent show and was completely hooked.
I was soooooooo mad to hear it was cancelled…it was one of my favorite shows because it was funny and very entertaining….then they leave us hanging not even knowing what happens…it was disappointing. I deff wish it would come back on….
I am very upset with nbc choice to end the show. i just bought season 1 to finish it and i want to see more! please nbc bring mercy back!!

I just watched all of season 1 through Netflix because though I have cable I had never heard of the show and it was rated 4 stars in Netflix for me. I loved it!! Watched all 22 episodes so fast, I couldn’t get enough. My husband even liked it and that says a lot these days. They need to bring it back! Different day, different time… Haven’t they heard of those options? Great humor, plot, and characters. I actually was more impressed by this first season than I am with current “House” episodes. More to relate to. Sum up… There… Read more »
