At the start of the season, we wondered which new NBC medical drama had the best chance at survival — Mercy or Trauma. It was hard to decide but now, they’ve both been cancelled anyway.
Mercy follows the lives of three very different nurses at Mercy Hospital in Jersey City. The cast includes Taylor Schilling, Jaime Lee Kirchner, Michelle Trachtenberg, James Tupper, Diego Klattenhoff, Guillermo Diaz, James LeGros, James Van Der Beek, and Delroy Lindo.
The medical drama got off to a pretty poor start last September, attracting a 2.3 rating in the all-important 18-49 demographic and 8.25 million total viewers. Unfortunately, viewership fell even lower from there.
Despite the ratings, NBC ordered a full season of episodes, likely because the network needed the original programming. Though NBC’s Primetime Entertainment President Angela Bromstad said she liked the show creatively, she noted that the show’s ratings had to improve for it to survive.
The ratings didn’t improve. The most recent episode attracted only a 1.1 rating in the demo and 4.01 million viewers.
To no surprise, the Mercy TV show’s now been cancelled. The 22nd and final episode aired last Wednesday, May 12th. Unfortunately, it wasn’t intended to be a series finale and didn’t wrap up the show.
What do you think? Are you sorry to hear that Mercy won’t be back for season two? What would you have liked to have seen happen?

NBC this is ridiculous, first Life, then Southland (well transferred to TNT- we don’t have cable) now Mercy. But you kept the farce of Chuck going (which originally was good until the ‘hiatus’), Apprentice and other reality bull. Not to even mention Conan… So, you leave us with a cliff hanger. Great. Unless it’s low production and cheap it won’t make it? Stupid.
626 comments and no joy I think we are just not being listened to. Is there any way we can actually get through to NBC or is this just a site to moan on. I spose they don’t even care that so many peops want to actually have a conclusion or a new series. CAN WE ACTUALLY BE HEARS OR IS THIS JUST A WASTE OF TIME.
How could you cancel such a a great show like Mercy. I guess to u guys it’s just another show but to a lot of people it was a hit! IDIOTS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
you have got to be kidding??? Trauma and Mercy canceled? Who decides this, they need to get a new job
I am seriously upset this mercy was canceled. I didn’t even kow it as canceled until i was looking to see when it would come back on. This is a rip.. And we were left with a cliff hanger. That is not a way to take a series off air. I loved this show. I think that you should give it another chance.
I am so disappointed that this and Trauma were cancelled. I kept wondering why it never felt like there was a season finale for Mercy. This is why it’s so hard to watch network television, they never give any shows a chance to find an audience. Word of mouth is the best advertisement, but shows aren’t on long enough any longer for word of mouth to actually work in the show’s favor. I hope they reconsider these shows.
I can’t believe the show was cancelled. I watched each and every show. It was the only medical drama that appeared REAL. I was sure it would have another season. I believe it was on too early to get the best ratings.
why would they cancel it?????this makes me so mad. I loved watching Mercy and was excited because it replaced ER which I had been watching since it first aired. I am very disappointed that Mercy got cancel and really do not understand because I know of a lot of people who watched it. please give Mercy another chance I really liked this show. Im super bummed now and i really hope it is not being replaced for another reality show. Cause that would suck…
Mercy was a great show! My daughter and I had a hard time waiting for the next episode each week. If there is any possible way, bring Mercy back. There are a lot of fans. Give it another chance. Advertise more and they may just have a hit!
The reality shows go on and the good shows die.
Are you FREAKING kidding me??? I love this show. If it was going to be canceled, why leave it that way? POOR, POOR DECISION! Great show, apparently, bad critics. I love it, and want it back. Why do you major tv stations get us hooked on a show and then cancel it? It is very frustrating? You are not doing your jobs well, keep the bad cheesy reality shows, and cancel the good ones???? WTF???? I want MERCY BACK!!!
I wish they’d give Mercy another chance…or at least let it air till the last episode…i loved this program….
WHAT!?! I was just getting into it. The reason it had such bad rating is because they obvioulsy didn’t advertise it enough!! I agree, give it a second chance and spend a little more money on adverstising. You have to spend money to make money. I think if people give it a chance they would get into too….
OMG..
I have been waiting for the next season.I can’t believe it’s gone.Wildfire was one I enjoyed and Boom gone. But this one..You didn’t even END it.I think there should have to be and ending .
Very disappointed viewer
PLEASE GIVE THIS ANOTHER CHANCE……..
I was looking forward for this show coming back and Trauma. Why do you alawys have to make money. Why can’t you just try and keep people coming back to watch your Network. Sucks
Little did I know that this show had been canceled. What a rip!!! And to think they left us hanging….the LEAST they could do when they cancel a show is to wrap up all the little cliffhangers they leave. I’m so frustrated…..I know I’m just one voice, but I really am thinking of doing away with TV in general. All that’s on anymore are crappy reality TV shows. I’m not against them….we all have different tastes….but at least give us a choice of things to watch. So what that it didn’t have a tremendous viewership….there are MANY of us who… Read more »
