At the start of the season, we wondered which new NBC medical drama had the best chance at survival — Mercy or Trauma. It was hard to decide but now, they’ve both been cancelled anyway.
Mercy follows the lives of three very different nurses at Mercy Hospital in Jersey City. The cast includes Taylor Schilling, Jaime Lee Kirchner, Michelle Trachtenberg, James Tupper, Diego Klattenhoff, Guillermo Diaz, James LeGros, James Van Der Beek, and Delroy Lindo.
The medical drama got off to a pretty poor start last September, attracting a 2.3 rating in the all-important 18-49 demographic and 8.25 million total viewers. Unfortunately, viewership fell even lower from there.
Despite the ratings, NBC ordered a full season of episodes, likely because the network needed the original programming. Though NBC’s Primetime Entertainment President Angela Bromstad said she liked the show creatively, she noted that the show’s ratings had to improve for it to survive.
The ratings didn’t improve. The most recent episode attracted only a 1.1 rating in the demo and 4.01 million viewers.
To no surprise, the Mercy TV show’s now been cancelled. The 22nd and final episode aired last Wednesday, May 12th. Unfortunately, it wasn’t intended to be a series finale and didn’t wrap up the show.
What do you think? Are you sorry to hear that Mercy won’t be back for season two? What would you have liked to have seen happen?

This was a creative and interesting show with good writing and a great cast. The problem is there is too much crap out there and it got lost. I’m very sorry to see it go. NBC should have tried to move it or something instead of just getting rid of it.
I loved Mercy and am sorry it was canceled
GREAT SHOW … WHY DID YOU CANCEL IT, PICK A BET TIME SLOT THEN !!!
MERCY & TRAUMA were the best show in a long time. NBC has just LOST ANOTHER VIEWER
I have been waiting with baited breath for the start of this show. Decided to start searching to see when it was going to start to find out that it’s been CANCELLED!!!
I’m with all the other comments here, the least you could do is have a final show. You finished the season with such a cliff hanger that we need to know what happens.
Please rethink this cancellation! I thought ALL the actors were great!
I’m very upset, I loved that show and have been patiently waiting for it to start, when I saw that cute doctor on another show. I got suspicious and looked, and sure enough they have done it to me again. It happens every year! But seriously, the cast, the comedy and the drama on Mercy was a sign of some great writers – in my opinion.
I loved Mercy. Something about the show and the characters was different. It drew me in, made me care about their flaws and their struggles. I think its cancellation is a travesty. But even more to the point, I’m getting extremely tired of networks bringing us great shows with an entire season of story lines with a cliffhanger that leaves us tortured for months, only to find out the show has just vanished, never to be concluded. Three examples for me are Mercy, Flashforward, and Invasion to name three. My husband and I are debating whether or not to even… Read more »
I’m a nurse (NOT gay) and loved the show. I got several of my co-workers hooked on watching Mercy too. Even though, like most medical dramas some things weren’t accurate, but the issues (big and small) were dead on. I really like the edginess and humanity portrayed by the characters and stories. Not all nurses are flawless angels and not all doctors are the all-knowing gods they think they are. I most definitely am not digging the cancellation and plead for it to return (not just reruns).
I agree with very upset. I’m getting tired of wasting my time on shows that get cancelled midseason. I’m at a point where I’m not going to waste my time on anything new anymore… if the show makes it a few seasons I’ll catch up by renting the DVDs from netflix.
REALLY UPSET…PISSED EVEN—I hate when they cancel a show and don’t even have respect enough to it’s loyal viewers to have a closing episode. You invest your time in a show, get to like the characters, can’t wait to see what happens and BAM they cancel it without warning. PLEASE, Please, please another network pick up this show…Veronica has some fixin to do…..
Really enjoyed the show. I have been looking forward to seeing what the new season would bring. Too bad there is nothing new this season to attract my interest. Guess I’ll take up reading again
Very upset! Loved the show!
Loved the show…I was really looking forward to the 2nd season and am definitely disappointed they are not brining it back!
