The BBC series didn’t exactly bring “magical” ratings to NBC during its short run last summer but Merlin’s second season will still be seen here in the states.
Merlin follows the life of the legendary wizard in early adulthood, living in the court of King Uther, Arthur’s father. The series stars Colin Morgan as Merlin, Bradley James as Prince Arthur, Anthony Head as King Uther, Katie McGrath as Morgana, Angel Coulby as Gwen, Richard Wilson as Gaius, and John Hurt as the voice of the Great Dragon.
A production of BBC One, Merlin has been a big enough success in the UK to be renewed for seasons two and three. NBC picked up the supernatural show and decided to run the first season during the summer of 2009. The ratings weren’t very good and the network has been mum on any plans to bring it back.

Now, there’s word that Merlin is indeed coming back to the US — but not on NBC. Word is that Syfy (also owned by NBC Universal) will begin airing season two of Merlin on Friday, April 2nd; paired with the returning Stargate Universe.
If you need a refresher on season one, Syfy will be airing the episodes during an all-day marathon on March 28th. You can also purchase the official DVD release but that won’t hit stores until April 20th. It’s a five-disc set and will contain all 13 episodes as well as two hours of extras that will include video diaries and a featurette.
What do you think? Are you glad to hear Merlin is returning to the US? Does it matter to you that it’s on Syfy and not NBC?
And the original “big three” networks wonder why their ratings have tanked!

I was so waiting for the Super Bowl was over so the next Merlin was airing. I waited 3 months of football, and then No Merlin? OMG was I ready to boycot NBC!! Good thing someone has a brain and knows a good show when it is up for grabs. NBC a Not Bright Company.
I have just finished watching Merlin season 2 episode 13 after discovering it a few weeks ago. I am now hopping above all hope that there will be a 3rd season does anyone know if there is going to be one???
@Alan: Yes. If you do a search on this site you’ll find the details.
I am so thrilled that Merlin is coming back. That show is so wonderful and the actors are superb. The storyline is always interesting, and Merlin is so loveable, as is Arthur. I’m just catching up on the episodes on the computer, on Project Free TV.
I am glad Merlin is coming somwhere. It’s terrible that season after season we viewers have to keep getting disappointed by great shows getting cancelled just because they don’t make the quota networks set for them. I doubt they count DVR recordings in thier ratings but they should because people are becoming more busy and can’t watch shows as they happen. If they did, some shows wouldn’t have low ratings.
I do not watch very much TV but I have to say Merlin was worth setting aside the time to watch it on NBC. I was extremely disappointed to learn NBC had cancelled it. Sadly, we do not get SyFy. Compared to some of the ‘reality’ trash that is offered on TV, Merlin is or was a jewel.
I loved Merlin and am very happy that it is returning to the states. It is a “sweet” show and we need more of them. I am sorry they have removed it from NBC, but grateful they are showing it on Scify.
its coming finally i having been waiting since forever
I wish NBC would still Broadcast MERLIN It’s one of the FEW FAMILY TV SHOWS. I LOVE IT & SO DO MY KIDS. IT’S A SHAME THAT NBC DOESN’T KNOW WHEN IT’S GOT A GOOD THING & THEY SHOULD KEEP IT GOING. BUT I GUESS I’M GRATEFUL SYFY DOES REALIZE A GOOD THING AND RUN WITH IT. BUT LIKE ROS SAID ABOVE THAT SOME PEOPLE DON’T GET SYFY. SO I THINK NBC SHOULD RE-THINK ABOUT TRYING TO GET MERLIN BACK SO THE PEOPLE CAN ENJOY A GREAT FAMILY PROGRAM.
What is wrong with NBC?? Merlin is one of the best shows they have, and our family loves it and can’t wait to see the next season. As already mentioned, it should remain on NBC as many people do not get SyFy
I think melin 2nd season should stay on nbc ch 5 some of us don’t get the sifi ch please keep merlin on nbc
I have finished the second season up to episode 13 the dragonlord is it over there or are they selling the rites and someone else is making it
I am glad Merlin is returning!
This is one of the few shows on NBC that I watched. Unfortunatly NBC still has’nt learned that you build an audience, you don’t just throw something out there and get one.
Yes!!! Merlin is a very interesting show. I have been waiting for it to come back on air. Yes, Merlin didn’t have good ratings the first season, that is because it wasn’t advertised in different channels, but because SyFy is going air it, it will be a hit. Please keep on airing Merlin. It’s an amazing show!!!!!!
