The BBC series didn’t exactly bring “magical” ratings to NBC during its short run last summer but Merlin’s second season will still be seen here in the states.
Merlin follows the life of the legendary wizard in early adulthood, living in the court of King Uther, Arthur’s father. The series stars Colin Morgan as Merlin, Bradley James as Prince Arthur, Anthony Head as King Uther, Katie McGrath as Morgana, Angel Coulby as Gwen, Richard Wilson as Gaius, and John Hurt as the voice of the Great Dragon.
A production of BBC One, Merlin has been a big enough success in the UK to be renewed for seasons two and three. NBC picked up the supernatural show and decided to run the first season during the summer of 2009. The ratings weren’t very good and the network has been mum on any plans to bring it back.

Now, there’s word that Merlin is indeed coming back to the US — but not on NBC. Word is that Syfy (also owned by NBC Universal) will begin airing season two of Merlin on Friday, April 2nd; paired with the returning Stargate Universe.
If you need a refresher on season one, Syfy will be airing the episodes during an all-day marathon on March 28th. You can also purchase the official DVD release but that won’t hit stores until April 20th. It’s a five-disc set and will contain all 13 episodes as well as two hours of extras that will include video diaries and a featurette.
What do you think? Are you glad to hear Merlin is returning to the US? Does it matter to you that it’s on Syfy and not NBC?
Love this show but lost track of it when it was on NBC cause i rarely ever watch nbc. Watch it on SYFY and ive bought season 1. somehow i missed a lot of season 2? or has it aired yet? saw the dragon ep and then no more.
LOVE this show!!!! great little cast of actors
My husband and I enjoyed watching Tales of Merlin, First Season. I have five granddaughters and three grandsons who watch magical episodes relating to vampires, dragons and witches. I do not consider these episodes wholesome due to modern content and values. I do not consider the literature even close to that upon which Merlin is based. LE MORTE D’ARTHUR is CLASSICAL literature and has historical significance. It educates about a time gone by, values and virtues almost unspoken today. Written by Sir Thomas Mallory in the 15th century, the re-creation of these tales in The Merlin series is marvelous, beautiful… Read more »
Merlin is a fantastic show that I look forward to watching every week! I feel like a huge dork for being excited about anything on tv on a Friday night as I’m 27 and normally out with friends, but this show has REALLY pulled me in. I can’t wait for Season 3 and I hope and pray it comes back to SyFy!
Love it – sure hope we can get Season 3 soon here in U.S.A.
i sure hope it’s back next fall if not on stfy i hope it’s back to bbca. i hate when i find a great show like Robin Hood (bbc) , Three Rivers, Ugly Betty and so many others & someone somewhere decides it’s had a long enough run & cancels it. i would much rather watch those shows than those stupid reality things.
7/2/2010 Yes it is a great show! Merlin must return for another season! I never miss it
I must agree with the comment before about the lack of adverts for the show on NBC as I was not aware that it had been available on this side of the pond until earlier this month, when I was of course too late to seize the opportunity. I have seen the first series and absolutely loved it. I’m sorry to say that I cannot follow the return on Syfy… still using a converter box with the basic channel coverage. Nethertheless, it was a refreshing take on a favorite character from Welsh lore and I can’t wait to see where… Read more »
this show is fabulous!!!!!!! Can’t wait to see the next season!
YAY! Waiting for season three having already seen season two many times.
Our family never misses a show, and we DVR it so we can watch it again and again. The kids love it and their friends enjoy it too. It is such a wonderful and fun-loving show. It brings magic into our lives..even if it’s only for a moment. But, the great thing about Merlin’s moment is, our kids and their friends, will remember this show and talk about how great it was for the rest of their lives. The characters, the actors, the sets, the settings, the costumes, the writing, the music, and especially the acting make Merlin the best… Read more »
Hi, I have been sick with cancer for a while and my daughter and I loved the show last summer and she asked about it recently.. like what happened to it. We loved it and want to see the second episode but comp is not so great… will they be showing re-runs, and is syfy the science channel? will nbc be showing it at all? We want Merlin! Also I know we can by the dvd eventually but its nice to see a series on tv ya know… gives us something to look forward to each week.
To be honest at first I didn’t think much of the show because of how they changed the story around. I gave it a chance anyway. I AM SO GLAD I DID!!!! I hope they keep making more episodes so we can see the story develop.
Charming characters with great chemistry on or off the set. That my friends…is real magic 🙂
I loved the series and would find is a terrible shame if NBC cancelled the season. I just purchased the 1st season on DVD and have watched it many times. Its enjoyable watching and a great family show that is not rated R. Thanks NBC for putting season 2 on the aire and I look forward to season 3.
yes i agree that nbc missed the boat on the this show. there was very little advertisment before the show aired and during the 1st season. you also have to know who is watching these types of shows, because if you air the advertisment during the football game chances are that they probably are not your demographic target. but i must say that knowing that nbc is related to syfy… this was a great 2nd choice and now thinking about it, makes perfect sense as those are more likely the correct demographic targets. i was very disappointed when it was… Read more »
My husband and I really enjoyed the Merlin Series. It is too bad that NBC doesn’t have the foresight to continue a good series. I do not want to watch it on syfy.
It would be great if another station would pick it up!!
I am pleased that Merlin is still airing. I only just found it a week or so ago. I love it, and so do my kids. I love how clean it is, and exciting at the same time! I will keep watching for it on hulu since I do not have a television.
