The Hollywood Reporter is reporting that CBS freshman shows Mike & Molly, $#*! My Dad Says, Hawaii Five-0, Blue Bloods and The Defenders have all been renewed for second seasons. The trouble is that CBS hasn’t announced that — and in all likelihood won’t be renewing all five TV shows.
We’ve received emails from several sharp-eyed readers who noticed that there was interesting tidbit included as part of an article about CBS and their concern over Charlie Sheen’s recent round of antics. In the first paragraph of the article it says…
CBS’ meat-and-potatoes brand of multi-camera comedies and crime procedurals have been remarkably enduring. All five of its new shows – Mike & Molly, $#*! My Dad Says, Hawaii Five-0, Blue Bloods and The Defenders – have received second-season orders. Earlier this week, the network and Warner Bros. Television announced a three-season pick-up for top-rated Big Bang Theory.
Two sentences are true, while one certainly is not. It would seem that what the author means is that the five freshman shows all received “full” first season orders, not second season orders. The article was published on 1/14 but hasn’t been fixed yet.
Based on the season ratings averages, it looks pretty certain that Mike & Molly, Hawaii Five-0, and Blue Bloods will be back for 2011-12. $#*! My Dad Says has gotten good numbers but loses a lot of its Big Bang lead-in. CBS will soon put it on hiatus and will see if another half-hour comedy can hold onto a bigger percentage. The Defenders, which is being sent to Friday nights beginning January 28th, is almost certainly doomed to be cancelled.
What do you think? Will all of these shows be renewed? Which, if any, will be cancelled?
Why don’t we just cancel all of these good shows? Let’s cancel all reality TV so the networks really have to work to get GOOD programming not screwed up crap like Survivor and the next stupid game shows. Shatner’s new show just got a Golden Globe for Best New Comedy. He is so funny on this show, which is the dysfunctional stuff that is funny, not crude.
Aw, quit picking on Cougar Town (love that show). I don’t watch anything on CBS besides: Rules of Engagement, How I Met Your Mother, and, oops, that’s all. So I don’t care about these new shows that are on the bubble. But keep them on so it’ll be less TV I’ll have to watch, hehe. And the reality shows, too – keep them on because I don’t watch them either. I liked The New Adventures of Old Christine and Gary Unmarried, and CBS canceled them. I limit how many NEW shows I watch now because I hate being disappointed when… Read more »
I don’t watch all of these shows only $#*! my dad says. I know it’s not the best but it’s gotten good enough for me to watch it semiregularly. Renew it. It’s cheesy and predictable but they have good one liners. We need more laugh track shows cuz it helps slow the pace down: non laugh track ones can be terrible (cougar town)
Nope… the author of this article was asked if she meant full season orders but tweeted no they were all renewed for Season 2. Go see her tweet: http://twitter.com/MarisaGuthrie
@H50_News yep, cbs picked up all of its new shows for a second season.
@Sarah: So strange that CBS hasn’t issued a press release or told anyone else about the renewals. lol

honestly only the three dramas really seem to deserve to be renewed
Mike & Molly and **** My Dad Says are okay at best and The Defenders is pretty good but doesn’t shock me it probably won’t be renewed
loving the new Hawaii Five-O and Blue Bloods is pretty great too
We don’t watch broadcast anymore. If a show lasts long enough to be worth the time, then we put it on the netflix/blockbuster queue.
Otherwise, screw it!
I agree that Hawaii Five-0 is a sure bet. I love the show and Alex O’Loughlin is fantastic as McGarrett.
The Defenders looks as good as gone and so does Bleep, MyDad Says.. They are both terrible shows.
If Hawaii-5-0 is renewed, I will be happy. CBS can do whatever with the rest.
Defenders is a well written series. I look forward to it coming to Friday, finally a series on Friday that will keep me interested.
Never fails, I get hooked on a show like the Defenders and the dipsticks at the networks cancel it…shame on CBS…I need to just throw my TV in the trash.
Networks used to give shows a real chance at building an audience. Remember “The Equalizer?” That took a while to build up an audience. Hopefully, CBS will find some sort of audience on Friday nights for “The Defenders,” but they should have tried to move it to another night first to just try things out for a few weeks…..
I enjoyed the first few M&M shows and continue to watch, but the novelty’s worn off a bit and I don’t know if we’ll continue to DVR this show. The other four can drop off the schedule and I’d never notice they were gone.
The Defender’s is a great show. I hope it is not cancelled. CBS please keep it on.
RULES OF ENGAGEMENT IS ONE OF THE FUNNIEST SHOWS ON TV
I love all of these shows, The Defenders is one of my favorites. I hope they all continue.
