Veronica Mars vet Ryan Hansen will guest star in the fifth season of The Mindy Project on Hulu. EW reports he will play the title character herself, Mindy Lahiri — more or less. Let us explain.

According to the report, after an incident at work, Mindy (Mindy Kaling) falls asleep, wishing she were a white man. She wakes up in the body Dr. Michael Lancaster (Hansen) and experiences a day as a handsome, blonde, white man. We know one thing: Dick Casablancas would jump at the chance to play an OB/GYN for a day.

Kaling actually teased the idea of doing this race- and gender-flipping episode back during Hulu’s press day during the Television Critics’ Association’s semi-annual program earlier this summer. “We’re pitching an episode called, ‘If I Was Born a White Man,’” she told reporters in August. “I love the idea that something happens to Mindy that is really sexist, and then she wakes up the next morning as a white man… It seems really interesting and fun and kind of a weird wish fulfillment to see how differently she would be treated.”

Since The CW cancelled Veronica Mars, Hansen has appeared on 2 Broke Girls, as well as many now cancelled TV series. They include Party Down, Friends with Benefits, Bad Teacher,  and Bad Judge.

Hansen also starred in the Veronica Mars spin-off, Play It Again, Dick, on CW Seed. He will appear in the upcoming feature films Bad Santa 2 and CHiPs.

Hulu releases new episodes of The Mindy Project on Tuesdays. The show will mark its 100th episode, this month.
