Becca Winstone’s chase is over. ABC has cancelled Missing, their Thursday night TV series, after one season and 10 episodes.
Starring Ashley Judd, Missing follows a former CIA Agent turned single mom as she searches for her missing son in Europe. The action show also stars Adriano Giannini, Nick Eversman, Cliff Curtis, Tereza Voriskova, and Sean Bean.
Missing got off to a disappointing start on March 15th, registering a 2.1 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 10.60 million viewers. It was in third place for the demo and second place in total viewership.
In week two, the numbers took a significant drop, to a 1.6 rating with 8.81 million. Over the next several weeks, Missing fell lower and lower. The most recent episode hit a new low with a 1.1 demo rating and 6.37 million total viewers.

Overall, Missing’s been averaging a 1.5 rating with 7.70 million viewers. If they had more episodes in the season, those averages would surely keep sinking lower.
On our ABC Ratings Report Card, which measures the relative demo success of TV shows on the network, Missing has a “D-” for a grade. Of the 22 scripted shows on the network this season, Missing ranks 21st — just above the already-cancelled Charlie’s Angels remake.
With low ratings and steep declines, it’s no wonder that ABC decided not to renew Missing for a second season.
The series finale airs next Thursday and will hopefully include enough closure to satisfy the viewers that stuck with it.
What do you think? Are you sorry to hear that Missing has been cancelled? Why do you think the show didn’t succeed? How long should have the show realistically lasted — one season, two, three or more?

..is a shame they cancelled the season 2, I think the serie is excellent 😉
I’m so sorry to hear Missing has been cancelled. I looked forward breathlessly every week for that show. I LOVE Ashley Judd! What a great actress!! I just can’t believe it is gone.
This was a great show. I really hope we have closure. Based on the premise of the show, it could only have gone so far, but it could have gone another season. I think networks just don’t nurture shows anymore. It’s all about how good you start. With the onslaught of reality shows and competition shows, viewers want immediate satisfaction. It is truly sad that MISSING is canceled.
Wow….very disappointed….my husband and I watch it and PVR it just in something came up or we got interrupted…..I use to call and talk about it with my sister who was an avid follower as well……I have to say I thought this one would have lasted longer than “Awake”…..I like Awake but not as much as I like “Missing”……VERY VERY DISAPPOINTED!!!!! Please if the viewers have any say we vote “Do Not Cancel!!!!!”
Missing shouldn’t be canceled that is what I look forward to every Thursday night
The trend is no longer watching TV shows on TV. Busy schedules and young children make it difficult for many people. I watch all my favorite shows on Hulu Plus! Now several of my new shows are being cancelled. The networks need to get a clue and include internet in their decisions!
Wow, can’t believe it. My daughter and I look forward to watching this show. I can not believe it is being cancelled. It is such a good show we can’t wait until the following week to see what happens next.
Very disappointed.
Wow! I cannot believe Missing is being cancelled. I definately look forward to watching this TV show every Thursday. Full of action like nobody other than Ashley Judd can pull off. She is a spectacular actress, combined with an unexpected twist to each and every episode so far. ABC should give viewers a chance to get on board. I hate to see it end every Thursday and I’m really disappointed to read the show is being cancelled. Ashley you did a GREAT job, keep doing what you do, you are truly amazing to watch. ABC just didn’t give you a… Read more »
I can’t believe this show was cancelled – it was great!! So entertaining. Good plot! Good casting! And, it had a lot of viewers, especially considering it was on a Thursday night which is already packed with good shows…it’s not the show’s fault that it was on the one night of TV that already has a number of awesome shows people just can’t stop watching. Also, I’m sure a lot of people watched it online, on demand or via DVR and I don’t think the ratings count for all of that. I hate to see this show go! Big mistake… Read more »
This was my favorite new show. The beautiful and talented Ashley Judd, as well as the rest of the cast, were fabulous. ABC did not promote this show and made a horrible decision to cancel, why not change nights. (Although I think they expected to keep it for only one season and that is why they put it up as “filler” for the American Idol hour.) Well..here is to hoping that a wise network (or even Hulu, Netflix or Crackle) will pick this show up and give it the home it deserves and bring it back for a second season.… Read more »
Missing is one of the best shows I’ve seen on TV. It has been hard hitting right from the start. Fast action and filmed in Europe with tension and intrigue. Car chases, close escapes what more can I say. The best TV shows seem to be cancelled and the drivel shows keep on going, i.e. The Bachelor, the Bachelorette and all the other scripted “reality” shows. Shows aren’t allowed to gradually build and audience as in the past, which resulted in some long running excellent series. Typical of corporate decisions in the U.S. it doesn’t matter if a profit is… Read more »
I’m so disappointed! I really loved this show and looked forward to it every week. We watched it on CTV – sometimes it was on Thursday, sometimes Tuesday, one week it didn’t air at all. It’s hard to keep viewers when they keep making changes like that. I thought the story line was exciting and I loved all the unexpected “twists”. And Ahsley Judd was fantastic as always. Gonna miss this one for sure…
I’m upset by this but me complaining won’t do anything ABC has already made up their minds. I just don’t understand how a show that brings in more than 4 million viewers every week could be cancelled?
Networks never give show a chance , the show has 10.6 million viewers how many do u need. I love Missing and Terra Nova . Terra Nova was nominated for awards are u kidding me right now!
I thought the show was pretty stupid and did not really seem to have a plot. Personally, I think the programming execs at ABC should be the one who is fired for putting on such crap. All of their new shows are crap. They have good shows like V and brothers and sisters and they canceled them to give us this new crap that nobody wants to watch.
V was a good show, but not as good as “Missing.” To say the show doesn’t have a plot is completely off base. It had more plot than almost everything on TV currently. This is the best show I’ve seen on TV in ten years. It was like a long running feature movie, of a quality not seen on TV very often. If this show is crap then most of TV is even worse. Wait, that is the real truth here!
